THE
SICK MEME

Post your character, one-ish per comment
They are now, for some odd reason, sick (headache, fever, runny nose, cough, whatever you want)
Another character replies and is struck with the sudden urge to take care of them (bringing them soup, extra blankets, Sudafed, sexual healing, what have you)
???
Profit!

Ronnae sighed. "I'll be fine, tho. Could you bring me maybe something to drink Kosi? I'm really really thirsty." She pouted, peeking slightly from under a pillow.

"But I want to because you're sick," he complained as he walked out of the door. Fontaine strode in after he left and took a protective seat next to the Orc's bedside. He managed to lick her cheek that was juuust exposed at the edge of the covers.

A moment later he was back with a cup full of water in one hand and a green bag in the other. He offered her the cup with a smile, "You should probably take something for it."

She leaned up, rubbing behind Fontaine's ears thankfully. She looked at him curiously, bringing the cup to her lips to drink a bit of the water. "What did you have? Anything for illnesses Kosi?" She wanted this out, and she wanted it gone asap!

"Well I don't know if what I take specifically would work for you, but..." The hunter sat down on the floor and went through the bag.

"I had some things that were going to be used as supplies. Normal things for wounds and such. I have some antidotes for poison, a few elixirs that are supposed to combat the strength of diseases. This is to fortify your body against further infection and this one here is pretty useless for this situation." He looked up at the girl and offered a reassuring grin.

"I can also just make you something, too."

Ronnae groaned and rolled over the bed. "Blech it all sounds icky..." She fussed and hid under the covers again. "Don't you have some dreamless sleep potions or something? I bet those will work perfectly..."

"I can make some. It would take a bit for the herbs to simmer, but that's it." Wow. He was feeling completely unhelpful at the moment. What was it that people usually did to take care of others, anyways? All he had to draw on were his memories from childhood.

Oh, wait. Exactly.

He strolled over to the bed and fluffed the girl's pillows as best as he could before heading off to retrieve a wet cloth. With that in hand he pointed to his friend, "Lay on your back, get comfortable and let me tuck you in." He would just prepare the concoction and let it brew while he fussed over the little details of getting her comfortable.

Ronnae blinked and puffed her cheeks in protest, but that was about it. She was too exhausted to complain so she just collapsed onto her pillows and idly scratched Fontaine's side.

He folded the rag on her forehead and went about combining the ingredients. In no time at all the room was filled with a light lavender scent and he went to sit back near the girl. What was next?

"Oh yeah. I was always read a story when I was sick. Did your father do that for you, too Ronnae?" He said, all smiles.

Ronnae stared at him for a few moments before her eyes started to water. She brought the cover up to her face and nodded slightly. She tried her best to cover the whimpers and sobs.

Well, shit. He frowned suddenly.

It was always hard for him to gauge how people would react to simple questions but everyone seemed even more sensitive and on edge than even back in Azeroth. Considering his knack for saying exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time he figured he would probably earn the ire of many a crew member. Oh well. This was his friend so at least she warranted an apology.

"Sorry," he hastily said, "What I meant to say was that I was going to read you a bedtime story!" He eyed her room and reached for an interesting looking book on the shelf before sitting down in one of the chairs. He opened it, flipped a few pages into it and cleared his throat.

Who did you think you were fooling, Nokosi? He wasn't even holding the book right-side up and there was clearly a picture on the cover of a Goblin and Gnome in mechanical units, fighting.

Ronnae whimpered lightly under the covers, but settled in. Only her eyes and top of her ponytails were visible. Her ears perked up waiting for the story.

He lowered the book slightly to look at the sick girl then stood up and walked over to her. As much as he wanted to sympathize with her and the others, he just found it hard to conjure up those feelings and relate to the magnitude of their loss. He embraced her in a good old fashioned hug and smiled.

"Hey, don't be sad. Everyone is going to be really happy that you saved them when we get back."

She looked down, not saying anything for a few moments. "It'll be nice seeing them again..." She said in a small voice. "I miss them..." She coughed a few times. "Th-thanks Kosi... I'm ready for the story." She kept her cover up to her nose.

"Okay!" He held the book back up to his face and squinted. What was this, anyways? A whole jumble of words with pictures and numbers. More confusing than a normal book, that was for sure. He glanced down at the girl for a moment, then stuck his face back in the book.

"So...once upon a time..." He paused to think, then nodded, "two friends were walking through the desert. At one point in the journey they had an argument and one friend slapped the other in the face. The friend who got slapped was hurt but didn't say anything. Instead in the sand they wrote 'Today my best friend slapped me in the face.'

Ronnae looked at him curiously. She laughed lightly, that was certainly an odd way to start the story. She relaxed trying to keep her focus on the story instead of the horrid pain she was feeling in her lungs.

Really, most of the stories he could remember his people telling revolved around morals, warnings or nature. All three, sometimes. That would have to do.

"They walked until they found an oasis and they went to take a bath. The friend who had been slapped got trapped in a patch of thick, deep mud and started drowning, but his friend saved him. After his friend recovered from almost drowning, he wrote on a stone; 'Today my best friend saved my life.'

Ronnae smiled faintly, she was now cuddled up to the large wolf beside her. She enjoyed the company, and she definitely needed it now.

The elf glanced over the top of the book to see if his friend was still awake; when he was younger he had been asleep by this point already.

"The one who had both slapped and saved his friend stopped the man and asked, 'When I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, but now you write on stone. Why is that?"

Ronnae let out a whimper after a slight coughing fit. When Nokosi had stopped to look at her she nudged him lightly to continue giving him an 'I'm alright look'. She rearranged herself on Fontaine, her eyes half slits right now as the exhaustion began to kick in. However stubborn she was being, trying to listen to the story.

The elf patted the Orc's head gently. "It's almost done," he assured her. He would secretly be glad when she did fall asleep; he couldn't remember the last time Ronnae had taken a nap or two. Her spending a day without at least 12 hours of it being asleep? Well that was just crazy talk. Nevertheless, he continued with the tale.

"The other friend looked at him and smiled before responding. 'When someone hurts us we should write it down in the sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

He closed the book and put it on his lap; still upside down, too. "The end!"

Ronnie's eyes were closed, her chest rising and falling to a shallow breathing. Her face no longer in pain, instead in the serene expression of sleep. She had fallen asleep curled up against Fontain's frame and it seemed like she was holding on to her favorite locket.

Nokosi hopped up from the bed and sloppily shoved the book back into the bookcase. He'd stick around and pester her for awhile, at least until she was feeling better, then it would be back to the daily grind of their 'new' lives aboard the ship.
