DUDE Kang is his BRO now.

TBH, he wasn't before he got gutted protecting Elisa, and the upgrade to bro-ness is not even because it was *Elisa* he was protecting specifically. Prior to that, Kang was this guy Goliath felt more comfortable hanging around than he did hanging around most of the mostly-human crew. They share a profession (war) and are both the only representatives of their (fairly similar) species on board, so there was always a certain sense of solidarity there.

Then Kang went and got gutted protecting a woman he'd met five minutes ago, on the principle that this woman was a friend of a friend, and now Goliath will lay down his life for the guy if he has to. He probably would have before just on principle, but now he will do it because they are BROS.

And this won't be out of obligation, or specifically because it was Elisa Kang risked his life for. It's the principle of the thing, that Kang is the sort of person who will defend even the friends of his friends just because that's what they are. Goliath is sincerely grateful that he knows at least one person whose honor he can genuinely count on. For someone who has been betrayed so many times, and who has learned the hard way not to assume that everybody's out to take care of each other instead of screw them over, this is extremely meaningful, and Kang is one of the few crew members he knows well enough to give his genuine respect and loyalty.

At their first meeting, Goliath was convinced he wasn't going to be comfortable around Eva, because her use of upbeat, gentle humor reminded him way too much off the bat of Elisa, his missing not!girlfriend. When Eva kept up with the humor past the point where Elisa would have gotten serious and/or empathic and made him feel angsty about wanting to talk about his feelings, but not with anyone not Elisa, that put him back at ease with her.

He doesn't yet have the feeling that Eva has some serious issues beneath the surface too, but he percieves that she's more interested in witty repartee than she is in deep emotional and philosophical discussions. While Goliath is normally emotional and philosophical to extreme degrees, presently he's emotionally overtaxed and suffering from a sense of social isolation, so the idea of unserious, relaxed social interaction with someone who shares his surface interest in literature is very appealing to him. Eva doesn't want to talk about the serious stuff? Great, becuase neither does he. They can remind each other that life isn't all clans getting killed and aliens taking over your body by distracting each other with Whitman and Shakespeare. Goliath likes this plan. It sounds relaxing.

Eva would become that friend who takes Goliath to Vegas after a bad week. All about distraction and avoidance, baby!

[personal profile] not_the_philistine 2011-02-12 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he'd end up drunk and on a roof somewhere crying "ELISAAAAAA" and Eva would have to deal with his hangover the next day . . . if he got hangovers. Thank you, Stone Sleep.

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Who says Eva won't be hungover herself?

[personal profile] not_the_philistine 2011-02-12 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Unless she sleeps from dawn to sunset, he won't be able to help. Stone sleep. Srry bb.

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
With her total lack of regular sleep, dawn-to-sunset would be a welcome dirtnap.

[personal profile] not_the_philistine 2011-02-12 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Then Goliath can help hold her hair back while she pukes and they can just ignore all that crying he did the night before. :|

They could become very sibling-ey, at this rate. Goliath had a handful of generational and social sisters prior to 99% of his clan getting murdered, so it's the sort of relationship he could fall back into.

Crying is a TOTALLY NATURAL response to alcohol. Eva will not judge. She will possibly do her own crying although odds are she's just going to get cranky and stare into space like she expects the objects in front of her to spontaneously combust.

They really could. I'm interested to see if future threads lead in that direction.

fffffffff

I think this Vegas-trip needs to happen.

Since we're talking avoidance and borderline alcohol abuse, Kang can come too.

I approve, I approve so hard. The next time a big trauma happens that's where they're all headed. XD

Kang wants to drag Trudy with.

YOU CAN SPEAK SPANISH WITH HER, EVA.

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Eva approves of this. She must meet this Trudy person and exclude the anglophones from their conversation.
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-02-12 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
That'd just be Goliath. XD

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, and any potential eavesdroppers. Though it is (ersatz?) Vegas, many hispanohablantes there.

It's Goliath's own damn fault he's been around since the 10th century can't be bothered to take a fricking Spanish class I mean really.

Inorite. Being a statue is no excuse. :|

[personal profile] not_the_philistine 2011-02-12 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the creators' fault for changing Elisa from being Hispanic to being half-black-half-Hopi. If they'd gone with her concept ethnicity, he would totally have made that effort to learn it. :|b

Goliath wishes there had been more Vikings like Hiccup and fewer Vikings like . . . the rest of the Vikings.

Yeah.

He encourages Hiccup's use of the castle's library and his interest in expanding his worldview through reading. He'd sort of like to keep talking to the kid, maybe encourage him to read some philosophy, have some conversations about starting to think about the process of thinking about things . . . or will when he's in more of a state of mind to think about emotionally and intellectually investing himself in an individual person again.

Goliath has had a lot of respect for Rhiow's prowess as a wizard since they tag-teamed Zuko during the ragevirus plot. He doesn't know how she compares in terms of power to the other wizards of her world, but wizardry in Gargoyles canon is not nearly so seamless and subtle as the wizardry she's demonstrated. Goliath finds himself respecting her magical competence as he would a warrior, and he's adjusting decently to the idea of respecting a wizard cat as a warrior.

Given that Goliath has always been fighting against sorcerers, not alongside them, Rhiow represents a potentially very good ally for him to have, and he thinks that they ought to continue fighting together, since their teamwork was decent that first time around.

He also sees her as a potential friend - someone he already knows and thinks well of, though he doesn't truly know her yet, and someone he'd like to make a good friend, regardless of their potential to be AWESOME CRIMEFIGHTING PARTNERS.
