app them now, srsly.

Hello everyone!

As you may know, applications open once again on June 1st. That's in...precisely two weeks! New crew members abound! They don't actually get to play until July, but it's never too early to start thinking about characters you may want to apply for. If you already have your idea, great!

If not, well, sit back and allow us to provide some suggestions.

For this...is...ENABLING NIGHT! ((Offer does not expire at midnight. Enable as long as necessary.))

Use this post to tell us why the canon you love and character you want are so spectacularly fantastic that they deserve another chance. That this ship will wither and die without their vital, life-giving presence. That they are worthy of being picked up and applied for.

How can you accomplish this? However you like! Essays extolling their virtues, your very best pictures of them, your favorite music videos, EXTREME ADVERTISING, and whatever else you have are all welcomed here! Let's make this ~fun~.

Good luck and happy apping! I'll have example comments up very shortly.

CAN YOU HANDLE THE POWER?

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers sure as hell can! And they'll rock harder than anyone while doing it. Just listen to their song of ass-kicking!

As you know, our current cast consists of the Blue Ranger, Billy, and his archnemesis Lord Zedd. But what kind of Ranger rainbow has only one color? Not the ship's Ranger team, that's for sure. They have five, as it should be. Jamie, Lash, Ron, Andy, and Kate are a unit of awesome, as Billy was with his original friends from Angel Grove. The ones he still misses very much.

From left to right, the ass-kickers of Angel Grove, California:
Billy, Trini, Tommy, Jason, Kimberly, and Zack

Please allow me to introduce you to Billy's missing friends and hopefully convince someone to give one a second look. Boring, personality-less goody two-shoes? Yeah right. That's not all they are! Maybe they aren't entirely full of the 'attitude' Zordon promises in the show opening, but they definitely have spunk. Allow me to count the ways in which they utterly rock as people.

((continued in comments below 'cuz this beast got long on me))

Jason and Trini

First up is the ever-present Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott! Just look at this fellow, isn't he handsome? He's the group leader, ever level-headed and ever-encouraging. Also, ever-unable to use an indoor voice while morphed. With him, you get major caretaker syndrome and guilt complexes. Ever notice Billy behaving that way? Guess where he got it from!

...yeah. Other interesting facts about Jason: he's one hell of an expert at the art of barbecue, he loves shirtless katas, and he's the king of rad bromances.

Second is Trini Kwan, the oft-underestimated Yellow Ranger! She espouses a distinctly Zen philosophy, can keep up with the guys at martial arts, and is well known for her calming abilities. Another known talent: the translation of complex phrases and concepts into laymans' terms. Just ask everyone who had the misfortune to know Billy before he learned to put down the thesaurus. You might think she's boring, but she really just knows how to roll her eyes at stuff that makes no sense. Like her boys, most of the time. And as one of Angel Grove's smartest girls, she makes a fantastic lab-worker.

Other interesting facts about Trini: She collects unique dolls, she loves to hug, and tai chi classes are her thing. Give her one on the ship and she'll be happy as pie.

Love is a battlefield....okay no.

And a silly one of the whole team:
This is how the Power Rangers fight. By playing football. Totally works.

Zack and Kimberly

Third, Zack Taylor! Not to be confused with the U.S. President of a similar name. This Zack is the Black Ranger, a happy-go-lucky fellow who loves life so much he could just dance! He expresses his energy through giving dance lessons and his special martial art, hip-hapkido. The unique form combines dance moves with attacks, giving the element of surprise. But don't let the antics fool you, he's no clown. In battle, Zack is a fierce warrior more than prepared to stand at Jason's side. Though there's nothing more he'd like than a kiss from the girl of his dreams, he'll always be there for a friend.

He also tends to be the touchy-feeliest member of the group. In any shot he appears in, odds are greater than 50% that he'll have his hands all over someone or other. He might even kiss you if you're sufficiently awesome. Or Jason, that works too.

Other interesting facts about Zack: He knows a variety of stage magic tricks for entertaining kids, he has a fair singing voice (see below), and the middle finger on his left hand is missing.

Fourth, the one all the guys knew and loved, Kimberly Ann Hart! This lovely lady is the Pink Ranger, a bubbly walking source of cuteness. She fights the Rangers' opponents with her flipping and twisting gymnastic skills. There's some sassiness to her, but rather than the Libby you might expect...you'll find a loving, genuine person with a warm heart who's ready to kick some butt. And drag you through the mall until your wardrobe shines.

Other interesting facts about Kimberly: She speaks and interprets American Sign Language, she sings and accompanies herself on guitar (see below), and her birthday is on Valentines' Day. Because she's the Ranger of ~love~.

And finally, it's the guy you've been waiting for, the king of kings, the Ranger of Rangers....TOMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Oliver. Tommy Oliver, the Ranger of Many Colors.

On the surface, he seems to be a clone of Jason. He's a martial arts lover and an equal match for Jase, but two things set him apart: unlike the tight-knit members of the Jason/Trini/Zack/Kim/Billy group, he's been a loner for a while. Second...his Ranger career started on the side of evil, where he was badass and terrifying. But then came FRIENDSHIP and everything was magical and okay, he dealt with some guilt issues and power glitches, and he continued to be silly and forgetful. And to always leave his communicator at home. Fool, Billy built you that for a reason, don't just meander into a fight at the last second! But that's what Tommy does.

Later, he eventually grows into his role enough to become leader of the Power Rangers when Jason departs. He stays in that leader role through two more switches of power, eventually giving up his Red Turbo Ranger power in the summer after high school graduation. Then, seven or eight years older, forgetful young Tommy returns...as Dr. Thomas Oliver, paleontologist, high school science teacher, and mentor to a new generation of teenaged Power Rangers. The Dr. O version of Tommy is far less forgetful, far more responsible, and far more spiky-haired, but he still has a tendency to get himself into difficult situations. He's cursed that way.

Interesting facts about Tommy: He's the longest-serving Power Ranger in the entire series, he likes a woman in pink, and he sure can eat a lot of food. The way to his heart is through his stomach, ladies.

Videos of Tommy:

Dr. O faces his past incarnations (the other parts linked in the sidebar)

And...that's about it. There are more ways I can describe their badassery, but...these teens are Billy's dearest friends, his lifeblood. He's largely moved on by now, but it would mean so much to him to be able to hang with them one more time. To hug them, laugh with them, show them how much he's grown since they last saw him. ...and maybe show off his girlfriend. And they'd totally fit in! Each of the Rangers has a special skill that can help, and they can each teach some kind of class to the crew.

The point is, these six are a fantastic team and they belong together. Not that it'll ever happen, but even a small reunion would be beyond awesome. Fantastic. Totally wicked. Morphenomenal!
