Friday Meme Light: Cause It's A Bittersweet Victory (Ten Years Later Thread)

The clock continues to turn on the ship.

The last years have been of turbulence, surprises and great fights, but eventually, five years ago, the Ohm were defeated and slowly, peace was restored to the entire multiverse. The crisis was averted! Congratulations!

...However rebuilding universes takes time. Energy. Power. It still might be years off before you'll get to go home, and Stacy is truly saddened about that. Call it catch 22 if you will, but at least the life on the ship is a lot more peaceful now. The farms have grown, and now there's enough in-house grown food to feed everyone who doesn't feel like eating slop or eating slop in the sensoriums every day. That's a small comfort, right? Oh sure, there's still the surprise or two on it, but now there's slowly more places to stop, and Stacy has been a lot more lenient about people getting their shots...

As they sometimes say, life will find a way to flourish, anywhere it can. My, there's a lot more bellies around the ship than before...

And maybe. One day. Far off future. You'll get to go home. But that's not now.

Ten years is a lot of time for people to grow, personalities to change and emotions to emerge. How have your characters turned out of it?

It took a while, but ten years have made the now twenty-eight year old half-Zenithia come out of her shell. Waiting for her world to be returned one day has made her appreciative for what she has going on right here now.

She smiles and talks a lot more now, and helps teach the new generation spells and healing magic.

Hoshi is now twenty-six, happily married to Philip and is still pretty much enjoying her time on the ship. Seraphiel looks like he hasn't aged a bit, too!

However, she has been taking it as easy as she can since she's carrying Philip's child. This is, understandably, not an easy feat since she still feels like doing everything she can around the ship and more.

Maybe she could find a way to bridge her world together with Philip's. It wouldn't be fair to have his child when he couldn't be there. That was if her world and his world would be restored soon.

At this point most women know to avoid him, but Jiraiya has barely changed, apart from a few wrinkles here and there. It's not like his hair can get any whiter, right?

But uh, seriously he's not that bad! Really! When he's not trying to take a peek at you, he is surprisingly very nice for an old man and enjoys teaching the kids a few tricks.

Zouichi had been mildly (okay, understatement) angry when it turned out the rebuilding of universes hadn't be as simple as it had been presented. His urgent mission was indefinitely postponed, along with the lives of everyone back on Earth... only now there was no enemy to fight.

There was something else, too -- once he was done saving his own world, he'd be free. It might take him hundreds of years to accomplish the task by himself, but at the end, he'd at last be able to leave in good conscience. For now, however, he was in some regards frozen in time: unable to save his world, unable to abandon saving it. He hadn't even aged during the last ten years.

But he did try to keep busy.

oops Soren hasn't aged at all visibly but he's a perfectly normal human, yep.

...PERFECTLY NORMAL. Also, incredibly crabby still.

Ten years since he continued to do the same dance over and over again. It was here that an old opponent had popped back up armed to the teeth.

"You're getting slow, Vilgax!" exclaimed Ben as he beat his old nemesis into the ground again.

"Mama? Mama!" A tiny little silver haired girl is tugging at Rein's leg. "Mou, can't we go see papa again?"

"Soon, dear. Eat up first okay?"

"But I hate bitter things." Pouting, Rein Drei shuffled to her food.

Rein had started a family. True it wouldn't be the same, but she still had friends and family here. And she loved her daughter. She had found Hayate and Shiro's pods long ago, and it was Drei's birthday.

Maybe it was the strange time continuity on Stacy, maybe it was so much exposure to so many different magics, but Rhiow was still tenuously hanging on at the ripe old age of seventeen.

Of course, she was mostly deaf now and walked with a pronounced limp - arthritis in her ankles. Because of that, she spent the majority of her time resting on the end of the Drunken Dragon's bar.

"What's that?" she shouted. "Who's got horns on their tail?"

Oh yes. Very mostly deaf.

There's a stranger aboard the ship today.

They said he was from the GIA, but the mode of dress wasn't apparent. Dark black and silver, his face hooded by a dark shroud.

His companion checked his pocket watch. "I'm going to leave you here for a while," said the Professor. "Are you going to be all right?"

"I will," replied the stranger, looking at the timewalker with a quirky little smile on his face. "Thanks, Professor."

"Not at all," replied the Professor. "I've got Time Lords to harass. Adieu!" And he vanished in a light, leaving the young man who continued his walk into the crowd.

Lightning crashes and thunder booms all the time over castle Thorston, home of the Overlord Ruffnut.

Ruffnut's death was a dramatic and heroic one, and as promised she had been brought back by Zetta's magic as an Overlord in the making.

Some time ago they had come across a planet of aliens that looked suspiciously like sheep (And weren't all that much smarter)and Ruffnut had encouraged them (Forced them) onto Stacy to save them from their planet being hurled into the sun.

Lounging on her thrown the massive warrior woman was relaxed and peacefully drinking away the day as rock music thundered through her throne room. Skulls of various sizes adorned everything from her throne to the walls to a massive one on the front of the castle that had glowing eyes.

Some sheep servants brought her a meal of mostly meat and cheese with more flagons of mead and wine to wash it down.

It was good to be queen.

Still lurking on the outskirts of the city, in the shadows of Stacy where no beast dared venture was a creature of savage fury and might.

What was once a happy go lucky, lovable dork of a hero was now a massive bloodthirsty beast known only as Menagerie.

The war had taken it's price from Beastboy, as his sanity had been ripped from him through torture and pain during a failed mission. Only his constantly shifting forms kept him from being locked away to protect the other citizens of Stacy.

Occasionally there would be reports of livestock stolen, people who dared to explore into his territory who were brutally ejected.

He had yet to have killed...but it was only a matter of time.

Martha is still working in the Med Bay, as quiet as it is now with the defeat of the Ohm. She's grown to accept the fact that she will never leave the ship, and in fact is quite happy with it. She realized that she never wanted to leave.

She still hangs regularly with the Doctor and the gang, but lives on her own now. Miss independent always.

Sakura is sitting on the Great Wall of China in a beach chair, reading one of Jiraiya's novels and sipping a piña colada out of a tall glass with a paper umbrella in it.

There's a boom box on the ledge nearby playing orchestral music from a sector of the universes they visited eight years ago.

Take it with a grain of salt, but things have changed. Sakura's less reserved socially, and has found less and less reason to hold back on stating her opinions over the years. Don't like what she has to say? Don't give her a reason to say it.

As for what else has changed, DO WE EVEN KNOW?

Philip: Side B

[identity profile] memory-hax.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The years had done some good for Philip, after Venjix and everything else. He had thrown himself into his work and budding new family, and came out with some astounding process. Stacy had long since relinquished several drivers for him to study, and he was in the process of refining several more ideas.

"Time to test this," remarked Philip, holding up the Gaia Memory that was a C mixed with a X.

"Henshin." Plugging it in, his body shifted as Cyclone appeared, the middle of him separated with a prismatic band.

"Excellent. Now for the real test..."

Holding up another Gaia Memory, he clicked it.

Plugging that into the other side of the belt, he threw the second L-shaped lever as half his body changed into the familiar form of DiEnd Complete, half the cards on his chest and the signal pointer having a card with Cyclone Extreme and DiEnd Complete on the top.

"It works... YES."

So at some point, some very recent point actually, someone knocked Nima up - for the third time. This new pregnancy is early enough to still be at a high risk for miscarriage and so Nima doesn't miss a single minute of her daily six hours of praying and chanting in the Angkor Wat temple, calling an enlightened soul across time and space to live in the body she is building for it.

She's about as interested in confirming the identity of the father as she was for the child she gave birth to, and now raises communally with the rest of her Order, along with a number of orphans from the war.

Building a new temple, since that's what she seems to be doing, is an interesting and unexpected thing to have done with her life. Only a few other air nomads have awoken in the time she's been on the ship, and most of the new Order are not benders at all.

Her peaceful face as she chants is marred by livid scars from injuries she received during the course of the war, and an infection she almost died from. Her lips are torn and puffy with permanent damage, and she is blind in one eye. She has been offered, and turned down, surgeries to repair these.

Aside from this, and the inevitable maturity of ten extra years, Nima has not changed much.

Sherry has grown up. She even, occasionally, has a smile on her face.

Except right now - because her stupid sample is refusing to comply with her genetic experiment demands. Oh, don't give her that look, you knew it was going to happen eventually.

With a groan, she pushed her long hair out of her eyes and took yet another sample, dictating to Stacy's recording systems. "Sample SK-225B has decided to not take to solution A-334, resulting in a rather interesting pattern of dots that look like Dr. Sera's bald spot. However, Sample SK-226A has been a near success, which means I may wish to increase the potency of solution A-339."

Making violet tomatoes was harder than it looked, okay?

[identity profile] alastirra.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alastirra really looks no different--ten years is a mere drop of time to a Draenei. She's very patient about getting Azeroth back, and who can blame her--when you know you get to go from a war that's finished, to a war that may never be finished...well. She's in no hurry.

What she HAS done, so far, is to set up a day care for all the working parents aboard ship, because she LOVES kids. None of her own, sadly, but it didn't matter to her, when there were plenty of little ones for the shaman to take care of and love while their parents were busy!]

Setsuna F. Seiei was in jail. Because where else would a terrorist end up, aside from a grave? While Celestial Being had done a great deal to help end the war, they had also pissed off quite a few people in the process.

So, yeah, universe is saved, peace is reigning, he can accept his punishment now that his job is over. Several years in the Brig isn't as bad as people think it is.

Leon was still Captain of the ship. But with the war over, his workload was greatly reduced, thankfully. Which gave him more time to devote to his wife and their children, which he was more than happy to do.

He even smiled occasionally. In public, no less.

chell and wheatley got married in the most glorious Sensorium ceremony the universe had ever seen and wheatley wore the most beautiful bowtie and GLaDOS was the shotgun-toting maid of honor and they had the biggest cake to ever exist in the history of forever and it was magical and there were companion cubes everywhere and singing turrets and no neurotoxin or murder at all and cave johnson cried the end

Ten years was plenty of time to come to terms with a few things, even for someone as doggedly stubborn as Chell. Now in her mid-thirties, she had more-or-less resigned herself to a life aboard Stacy, but hey, at least it wasn't a life trapped in Aperture with omnipotent robots hellbent on murder. It was better now that she wasn't fighting someone else's war, anyway. Knowing she would never be a test subject again was also a plus.

Having worked very hard to put the events of Aperture behind her, most of her time was spent on all the things she missed out on due to being trapped in a lab for most of her life. As a result, she managed to shake at least some of her social awkwardness (even if she was still more comfortable around robots, even ones that tried to kill her). SURPRISE. She wasn't entirely mute after all.

One thing, however, hadn't changed. Now that there was actual food on board, you could bet your ass Chell baked a mean cake.

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-09-10 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
It had taken some prodding, but Jamie had finally gotten around to admitting his feelings to Victoria, and found she returned them as well. When they had gotten married, they had both agreed they wanted a big family. What neither of them had expected was that the family decided to arrive all at once.

There were the five of them now - Jamie, Victoria, and the triplets. Two boys and a girl, all with remarkably different personalities. Edward took after his grandfather, Victoria's father, and was a quiet, serious little boy. Ian already showed some musical talent, and had his own set of handmade mini bagpipes. Mairi was the one who wanted to be a warrior and loved to run around with a toy sword - much to her father's chagrin. Not wanting to drive everyone who was still living in the TARDIS nuts with so many children underfoot, they had found a place in the city, near a park - a Victorian house, ironically enough.

Jamie had retired from the Rangers once he found out Victoria was pregnant, although he still helped with training, just to keep his hand in. Otherwise his days were spent working on fixing up the house, working in Engineering and spending time with his family, the Doctor and his other friends. He missed the adventuring sometimes, but overall there wasn't much he would change about the way things were now.

Time had not been kind to Grandmaster Cargn Thane.

Now a good 802 years old, he was quite ancient. But it was not old age that crippled the aging Grey Knight. Rather, it was the ravages of war that took its toll on Cargn. Even centuries of experience cannot prevent the eventuality of battle scars, and in a war as fierce as this one had been, Cargn's scars had eventually piled up too high.

In addition to the cybernetic arm he sported since that early battle on Zokez II, the aging Grandmaster now sported a number of other prosthetics to repair the damage of battles now long past. He refused the more advanced cybernetics the Engineering department was capable of creating, instead preferring the relatively primitive bionics of his own world that were found in storage, built and blessed by techpriests of the Adeptus Mechanicus. His leg was replaced with a simple looking bionic one, and though it was combat-grade, damage to his genetic structure from an Ohm bio-weapon led his body to eventually start rejecting the bionic, giving him a severe limp and forcing him out of combat. His jaw had been destroyed when he was caught in an explosion, forcing him him to replace it with a bulky vox-unit. It gave him a truly horrifying visage now, his face just two empty eye-sockets and a crude looking vox-speaker. The replacement gave him a droning, monotonous voice.

Cargn was currently hobbling through the streets of the City, returning to the Shrine he still maintained after all these years. There was a now-familiar clank-tap sound as he walked, the sound of his metal foot followed by his cane as he moved onward. He wore a black robe these days, representative of the fact that he now considers himself ready to join the Seekers, those Grey Knights too old and wounded to fight who instead spent their days guiding their Chapter with their ages of wisdom.

Time was not kind to Cargn Thane, but still he continued on.
