VOICE TESTING POST

||Welcome to the Transmigration 9. Actually, welcome to this simulation of the Transmigration 9,|| a voice says from somewhere in the darkness around you. ||It is necessary for beings in stasis to receive occasional cognitive stimulation to prevent the onset of a vegetative state. This simulation should keep your minds within acceptable limits of atrophy until you are needed.||

The voice doesn't seem to be concerned about you at all, though. ||You may notice that your mental projection of yourself may seem sluggish, but we of the Transmigration 9 can assure you that this is just a reflection of how you always are. It has just been a while, so you don't remember.||

||You will soon find yourself on a copy of the Observation Deck, surrounded by other beings from the stasis pods. You are advised not to maim or kill other inactive crew members, as the effect of damage to mental projections on the body is not being studied at this time. Your dedication to experimentation is, however, admirable for considering such a thing.||

And then you are here.

[OOC: Feel free to tag this with anybody, from actual crewmembers to potential apps to people you aren't really considering but just want to play around with anyway. Anything helps when it comes to voicetesting! Consider actual crew members just part of the simulation.]

Everett is looking as confused as some of the others as he takes in his surroundings.

Needed? Stasis? The last he remembered...

Ah, yes. Climbing into the stasis pods on Destiny. Was this some sort of weird cryodream? He had no clue, but, wherever he was, this wasn't Destiny. It looks like some sort of ship, but he can't be sure. None of the ships he's been on were the consistency of muscle.

"I suppose you have no idea how we ended up here, either." Tarrant's voice was dry, his words a little more clipped than usual, but his hair was now perfect again, and that was the most important thing.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"No. No idea." Everett turns to face the man speaking to him. "Or where here is."

This is just great. From one weird, alien ship to another.

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
As expected. Well, at least this man was not a demon. Or kobold.

"Perhaps introductions are in order. My name is Gerald Tarrant, recently of Jaggonath."

Not entirely true, but not false, either.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Colonel Everett Young." Everett introduces himself, holding his hand out. "Formerly of Earth, recently of the Ancient ship Destiny, I guess. Pleased to meet you."

He doesn't seem too phased by all of this on the outside. According to Young, he was still snug in his stasis pod on Destiny.

Earth. Tarrant tasted the word on his tongue, savoring it. Everett had uttered it so casually, too, as he had that old Earth rank. A military rank, if he remembered correctly. Would a man lie about a thing like that?

Rather than take Everett's hand, Tarrant gave him a formal bow of greeting, picture-perfect in its adherence to Revivalist custom. "Ancient ship? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the term."

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, not many people will be." Everett admits, looking around. "You'd have thought that I'd be a little more concerned about being somewhere else, suddenly, but I've been through so much crap the past years that this is just normal."

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"And what military order do you belong to, Colonel, that you routinely wake up in surroundings like these?" Tarrant asked, making an elegant sweeping gesture of the room.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stargate Command." He might as well tell him, there's no sense in hiding it. "We discovered this big, super-conductive ring that lets us travel to different planets. So, I've experienced my fair share of weird."

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was under the impression that humanity preferred the use of ships to travel between regions of space," said Tarrant. The man didn't seem mad from outward appearances, at least, but his story... well.

"You say you discovered it. Meaning that it was some alien technology?"

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Everett folds his arms. "From what I understand it, the Ancients built the Stargate network to help them discover more about our galaxy, and used Earth as a mid-point. This was millions of years ago." He looks up to Tarrant. "I don't know much more." Apart from the Gate address back to Earth, and the ability to dial it from three different types of Stargate; Milky Way, Pegasus and Destiny.

"We've only developed ships recently, and that was only because of the Asgard."

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Impossible," said Tarrant. "Earth has been home to spacefaring technology for generations. Long before I was born. And there is nothing in our records to indicate the existence of this Stargate network."

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not where I'm from." Everett says, before pausing and adding. "Or when."

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"You are implying time travel?" Something beyond humanity's abilities, as far as Tarrant knew. Well, in the widely understood sense, anyway.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I did go into stasis back on Destiny. And the Stargates have been known for causing time travel under certain circumstances."

He looks around. "Or it could be this Transmigration 9 thing."

[identity profile] coldfire-adept.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Tarrant was willing to entertain the idea. For now. It wasn't as though their surroundings made much sense that he could glean.

"Yes, the Transmigration 9. It sounds like the name of a ship, doesn't it?"

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-28 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Or some sort of alien relocation project." Everett stomps his foot a few times on the floor. "But why the meaty surroundings?"

Bigwig is even more confused than Everett is, but upon seeing the Man believes he may have, at least, found the source of his predicament. He stays very still for the moment, although the observation deck offers absolutely no place to hide, which makes Bigwig very nervous.

He considers talking to the Man, to demand an explanation, but his greater instinct is that Man often carries weapons or comes with dogs. Even if talking worked on the Dog, that means nothing here. Bigwig stays very still and hopes the Man is flat-out oblivious enough not to notice the shivering rabbit a few feet away.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
And he is oblivious, for the time being, until he takes a few steps forward and looks down.

Rabbit. Regular-looking rabbit. And it looks scared out of its wits. Feeling sorry for the poor thing, Everett hunkers down, holding his hand out to the creature.

[identity profile] defendthisrun.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Bigwig stays very still, peering at the hand, for a moment. Then he leans his head forward and sniffs at it. It's just Man-scent, neither food nor dogs nor gunpowder on it.

"I hope you're not offering me that hand to eat. I can't imagine it would sate any appetite I could manage." He doesn't think the Man can hear him, so he doesn't mind being a little rude.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"So." Young says, smiling lightly. "You can talk. Not surprised." He pulls his hand back, but remains hunkered down. "I've seen weirder things than talking rabbits."

[identity profile] defendthisrun.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Bigwig darts away from the Man in shock, although he has nowhere to go, so he ends up running in a large loop around the observation deck before stopping several yards from Everett Young.

"You must be the first Man since Frith made the Earth who speaks Lapin. I must be dreaming."

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"And you're the first rabbit I've seen that speaks English. And I'm fairly certain that I'm dreaming."

He turns around, rocking back onto his heels. "I'm not going to hurt you."

[identity profile] defendthisrun.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Speaking English? What sort of nonsense is that?" It makes much more sense that Everett's speaking Lapin than that Bigwig should suddenly pick up another language, at least to Bigwig.

"Well, lucky for you. If you came at me I'd have half a mind to bite your finger off." Bigwig bares his large front teeth just to make that point clearer.

[identity profile] colunderfire.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I definately can't speak rabbit." Everett says. "I only know a few words in Italian." And a few more in Ancient, but there's no point in mentioning that. "So, either you suddenly learned English, or something's translating."
