"It's actually worse in my time. Addiction to prescription drugs is a big issue. Specially since they made the drugs stronger." Can you tell that his time is really really messed up yet, Cassie? "It is. Which is also part of the reason why I took up the meditating." He wasn't technically a superhero anymore. But if the insomnia was any indicator, he was at least well on his way?

"Oh. Wow. Yeah, I can see why you'd want to meditate. Does it help?"

"Sometimes. Not always." He moved his arm a little to give her a lopsided smile. "I make it through though."

~~Why don't I help you sleep some time.~~

"Well, that's good, I guess..."

No hitting on him! You're a taken girl, Cassie!

~~Don't think your knight in...suit of shining armor would like that too much.~~

"S'what the doctors tell me. But I gues after this," he ran a hand along the scar at his throat, "I've gotten enough sleep for a lifetime."

Just keep repeating that!

Cassie's expression softened. "I know I said it before but I'm really sorry that happened to you. Did it... how bad did it hurt?"

He shrugged his shoulders a little, pasting a slight smile across his face again. "I didn't feel it at first. But just before I passed out, it was like...hnn. I dunno, touching a red hot poker across my throat."

Cassie looked away, back at the waves. "I'm sorry." She said softly. "I wish..."

He pushed himself up to sit next to her, bringing his knees up to his chest to rest his head on them, watching her for awhile before he spoke.

"I'd be lying if I said I never thought of blaming you and the others for sending me back to it. But...you know. It wasn't your fault. I don't even know what it must have been like. No one's to blame here." Except maybe me.

At her last words he nodded. "Yeah. But things aren't so bad now. I'm alive aren't I?"

"Yeah, you are." Cassie looked back at Nate and nearly reached out to lay her hand on his. "I'm really glad you're here."

"Yeah. Anyway I-" Whatever he was going to say is cut of as a huge wave crashes over the rock and ~~ruins the moment~~ knocks him off it. If Cassie is still up there when the water clears, he'll be nowhere in sight.

Cassie was still up on the rock, but only thanks to her quick hands, which now had some decent sized cuts on them.

"Damn! That was- Nate? Nate!" Don't freak out. He's fine. He knows how to swim he'll be fine... unless he hit his head or- "NATE!" She looked over in the water, trying to spot him.

There's a long silence before he comes up out of the water, coughing a little before letting out a short laugh. "Oh man, what a trip." A pause when he sees her worried expression. And his own face becomes a little o_o, the effect of which is made more comical by the seaweed dripping from the top of his head.

Ahem. "Uhh.. looks like the tide's coming in?" He gives her a lopsided grin.

Oh, thank God! She could kill him for that!

"Yeah. Maybe we should head back. Unless you want to get more of this in your hair." Cassie said, reaching down and pulling the seaweed off of Nate.

Well it's not like he did it on purpose! He didn't put that wave there ~~his mun did~~!

"Well, it's not like I have that much hair to get messed up." Pulling himself up onto the rock, he took the hand that she'd reached out to pull the seaweed from his hair, holding it palm up in his own. "You hurt your hand."

Touching. Touching! There was touching.

"It's nothing." Well sure, it was one of those nasty annoying cuts that could hurt quite a bit on its own and the salt water wasn't helping but all things considered... "Hardly feel it at all."

Well there needed to be touching if he was going to look at her hand!

"Hnn. We should probably at least head back and get it cleaned up or something." It didn't look like nothing. "Well you don't feel it because the endorphins are still running through your system, and the adrenaline rush from the fright you got when I went in is blocking the pain. But in a little while..."

Can you tell Nate's a dork, Cassie?

And it was probably the endorphins that made her really, really want to just silence him with a kiss right now. But that would be bad for many reasons. So she just smiled instead.

"It's just a cut. It'll be fine."

It probably was. He probably wouldn't have objected to much either. But then, that would have been bad too.

He sighed slightly. Why was she so stubborn? "Well, if you say so. Do you want to head back? Or stay out for awhile more?"

They really should head back. Between the waves and the strong desire to just launch herself at him...

"Well we could stay out here a bit longer if you don't mind..."

They really should. If they were being calm and rational, that would be the logical response to the situation.

"I don't mind. As long as you're sure your hands are alright." You know, he probably should let go of her hand by now...

"Yeah, I'm sure." Instead of pulling her hand away Cassie turned it over so that she could hold Nate's hand.

He squeezed her hand gently, conscious of the cuts on it. "It's nice. Being out here." ~~With you.~~

Cassie didn't say anything. She just kept staring at Nate. She didn't realize it but she was leaning in closer.

Nate himself hadn't noticed just yet. But he would soon enough. He looked up, smiling at her for a moment.
