Oh the weather outside is frightful...

The situation: It is dreadfully cold. Think 'ice cave where all those slash fics are set'.
The goal: Keep each other warm tonight!

☀ STEP ONE: Comment with your characters. One comment for each character.
☀ STEP TWO: Other people reply to your characters.
☀ STEP THREE: Both participants are aware that they should/must keep nice and warm. To do that, you need to bundle up nice and closely, however grudgingly. No, killing your threadmate and cuddling the body doesn't count.
☀ STEP FOUR: Keep 'em warm! Hot cocoa, hot coffee, hot tea, hot mustard, or other suitably warming beverages will be provided if you cooperate.

((Basically just a winter-themed cuddle meme, with evil ideas from Shae and Col. Add some cuddle urges in the air if your characters won't otherwise cooperate but you want them to.))

Katara saw that anger in his voice, and to be honest, she couldn't see herself feeling any less angry. She had just helped free her world from war that had ravaged it for years: to have the Ohm undo all of that and potentially take her away from all of the people she cared about?

"I'm glad we agree on that," she said, her face hardening a little. "You really think I'd last there?"

"Yeah, you'd be fine. You're pretty badass for a human girl. Besides, I wouldn't let anyone screw with a guest of mine."

A compliment and a hint of a decent streak. Zetta was slipping!

Katara grinned. "Glad to know that I could last that long. Who knows, maybe I'll get to see it someday. There's a lot I'd like to see."

She looked over at the book and poured some more hot chocolate into his mouth. 'Enjoying yourself?"

"I guess? I mean, it's an ice cave in the middle of nowhere...Why do I keep ending up in weird circumstances with you anyway?"

Katara giggled. "I don't know! It's not like we're that similar or anything. I don't really mind your company, to be honest. You have a really funny way of thinking, Overlord Zetta."

She took a sip of the hot chocolate herself. "Do you really enjoy my company, Overlord Zetta? I thought I'd be nothing but a random human to you or something. I don;t really know how demons think, to be honest."

"Funny? It's only funny because you're not the most badass freakin' Overlord in the cosmos! Besides, don't tell me I'm the only one. With all the weirdos and lunatics on this ship, I'm the strangest one?"

W-what the?! What's with the honest questions? Zetta looked baffled for a minute. "I'm an Overlord! The strongest one in the cosmos! NO ONE is good company -- you're all weak, and, and, not -- not as good as I am! I don't need anyone around to be happy!"

Of course, if he'd stopped there, maybe it might be a jerk enough of a declaration to be believable. But no, after a moment Zetta decided he had to be yet more absolutely clear on the idea.

"Overlord at my level... we don't have friends. I told you that. Everyone at that level got there by being damn strong, and the kind who you can't turn your back on! I mean, sure, I got along well with Pram, but I knew she'd turn on me if I let her! Even though she did warn me about the Sacred Tome, but... b-but that's because she's from my Netherworld to begin with! She didn't want to see her old home destroyed! Everyone on the ship is nothing but annoying! Annoying people who aren't worth my time!"

Another pause.

"Minions. You make good minions. Not even great minions, you all are hung up on heroism and way not evil enough. I'd tell you to burn down an orphanage and you'd just look at me like I was joking! You'd probably even think I was! You're terrible minions!"

And he paused again. Not for very long.

"Except Ruffnut. Ruffnut's a good apprentice. Unlike SOME disciples of mine I could name!"

Then he realized he'd said entirely too much, and stared in horror at nothing before glaring at Katara. "That don't exist! I was speaking -- hypothetically!" Change the subject, Zetta! Change it! What had they been TALKING about anyway?! "Uh, so -- company? You all are... interesting. You're... challenges. I can't avoid you all, so I might as well get to know you, so when the time comes and we're facing down the Ohm I know who I've got on my side."

Katara should have been surprised at what the Overlord was saying but she wasn't: if anything, this was exactly the sort of thing that she'd expected him to say.

"I'm never going to be anyone's minion," Katara said. "Or anyone's slave, or anyone's conquest. That was why I worked so hard in my world to become stronger. You don't get heroes just because we decide to be that: you get heroes because there will always be people who want to take things for their own, no matter who gets hurt. That's why we go around saving orphanages, or fight things like the Ohm. If people want to call me a hero, they can, but it has nothing to do with why I do what I can to help others."

She smiled. "And if you're fighting against the Ohm, then you know I'll be on the same side you're on."

"Ha! You'd have to be stronger than anybody. You know that pretty much leaves only the option of Overlord, right?"

Zetta grinned wildly at that mental image. "Ice Queen Katara, the Hero Overlord! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha ha I'd pay money to see that!"

Katara looked seriously at Zetta a moment. "Not if it meant changing who I am. I don't think I'd make a great Overlord. I...don't want to just have things on my own."

She giggled. "Oh, that's just silly. Kinda fun though, me as an Overlord. I'd be too strange, asking my minions if they felt comfortable enough or something."

"So long as you've got the strength to stop the people who want to stop you, you can live your life however you want." Zetta grinned. "Though, uh, you're SUPPOSED to pick on the Prinnies, it's part of their reincarnation cycle."

"I'll always make sure I have that," Katara said, giving him a lopsided grin. "If I'd forgotten that, people could get to me easily. That's why that horrible Big Zero's words didn't phase me."

She frowned. "I feel a little bad for them too. They ARE things."

"You don't quite have it yet, but for a young human girl you've got a pretty good start," Zetta said with a grin. "I won't let anyone too strong pick on you, not till you can give 'em a fair fight.

"Besides, don't feel bad for Prinnies. They're souls of horrible people."

"I appreciate that," Katara said, giving him a smile. In her own way, she sort of understood how a demon operated. She had heard what Damion said of them, but in truth, as all humans weren't the same, who was to say the same could not be said of demons? "I'd prefer to be stronger by learning from someone who's hard."

She looked a little startled by that. "Are they really? What sort of people are they?"

"Thieves. Murderers. People who've led worthless lives," Zetta said. "Their souls get sewn into the body of a Prinny, and then they either do good deeds for free in Celestia, or work terribly for barely any wages in the Netherworlds, till they earn redemption."

Katara was silent for a moment. The prinnies had seemed so cute before, but now she was rapidly changing her mind. "Never mind then," she said. "Maybe they need to find redemption in their own way."

Oh, they ARE cute, Katara! It's just that it's okay to laugh at their suffering!

"Yep. Of course, sometimes the Netherworlds can't actually manufacture enough Prinny bodies, then it gets all weird, but usually the system works."

She wondered about this Netherworld he kept talking about. "I'm kind of curious: what sorts of things do demons do, in these Netherworlds. Most of the people I know, and even in my world, demons are thought of as pure evil, corrupting...yet you don't seem like that in a way. You think with logic and wait for more opportunity to take what you want. Is that why you're so high up there as an Overlord?"

"All sorts of things, really. I'm the Overlord, so I just lord it over everyone and travel the cosmos being awesome -- but there's your usual run of jobs. Warriors, medics, gate keepers, vassals, servants, shopkeepers... It's not like you'd think from human fiction, where we all just sit around in the middle of the brimstone and lava and plot evil.

"...I mean, we DO do that, but not JUST that. We have lives too."

She still didn't quite get what he meant.

"What do you mean about 'your usual run of jobs?' Are you saying all the jobs you just mentioned are also ones in the demon world? I mean, there isn't much that I know about how humans view demons other than the whole 'they are evil and unclean part.' If you have lives like you say, what do they involve?"

"Well, we have stores, and those need to be run. Castles that need to be cleaned, so we have servants and whatnot. Tracts of land that need lords, so we have vassals, and peasants. Mercenaries and armies... low-level peasants... I mean, sure we're evil, but unclean is really a matter of personal preference." Lord Zetta is, of course, a little bit of a slob.

"From what little I've seen of human worlds, aside from the nature of the residents, it's a lot more normal than most people would think."

"That is a lot: it sounds a bit like running a kingdom," Katara said, thinking a lot about the circumstances in her world. "So everything is sort of organized, even though you have to use that time to plot your evil too? That's a lot to think about. But I have heard that your sort of touch is supposed to be dirtying, somehow tainting. I don't believe it completely though."

She nodded. "It does sound pretty familiar."

"Dirtying and tainting, huh?" Zetta snickered, which slowly grew into outright laughter. "It's because we're so much more badass, any human who meets us can't stand knowing how bad their own kind is in comparison!"

"I doubt that's the reason," Katara said. "Not that I believe that of course: I hardly know anything about demons except what people tell me on the ship. Daimon for instance, thinks that if you guys, but I don't think he's just human either."

"Wait, was that the guy who claimed demons could be banished with salt and... sparkling tonic water, or something? And that they all should be?"

Zetta sneered a little. "I'm not sure he knows anything about anything. He couldn't take me if his salt was weaponized and his tonic water came at the tail end of a fusion reaction."

She giggled. "It does sound pretty silly, but its in his world. For all I know, he might be able to channel his own inner power and empower what he does. There's you, Evangeline, and that little girl demon on the ship, yet I can at least understand how you think."

She laughed aloud here. "He might take offense to that!"
