Second Chance Meme!

Okay, rocks fell, everyone died. Too bad, valiant meatshippers! But the good news is that you've all be reincarnated!

...as baseline humans on modern Earth.

Maybe you're waiting at a coffee shop, and you spot someone out of the corner of your eye that looks strangely familiar. Maybe instead of strangers from universes far apart, you and your close CR are now childhood friends who have always been together. Maybe you meet a former enemy as a friend, or a former friend is now a bitter enemy.

Are you a college student? A high-powered lawyer? A kindhearted schoolteacher?

What would your life have been like had you been born under different circumstances, and you met your fellow crew once again? If you had a second chance? Would you still fall into the same habits, be a victim of the same misfortunes? or would you use the opportunity to be someone completely different?

1. Post with your character, or tag someone else.
2. Set up the scenario you want to explore!
3. ???
4. Meme!

He grinned. "I hang around every area even when I really shouldn't be. Bad habit, I know but it's hard to contain a serious case of wanderlust." The tall man turned his grey eyes towards the partially cloudy sky in thought. "Then again, last time I disappeared you jumped a foot in height and plenty inches everywhere else so I might want to stay put," he casually remarked.

"W-what?" She halted in her tracks at the comment. Sure she'd grown... something she was proud of... even if she was still a very not intimidating five, five. But still! It had been an accomplishment! However, the latter was an understatement, another fact she wasn't going to complain about. She was already shy and a bookworm, being blessed with heavenly curves made up for that fact she thought.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"W-what?" Nokosi repeated, a mischievous smile adorning his lips. "If I leave again who knows how different you'll be when I return? And you might become reclusive." Even more so.

His gaze dropped down to her shorter form as they walked. "I was already surprised," and a little concerned, "when Auntie told me you haven't had a boyfriend or bothered dating. Too concerned with studies, I guess?"

He waved a hand, dismissing the thought and took a long drink of his soda. "Next time I go to see the world I'll take you with me."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"No... my interaction with the male human species hasn't been all that amazing. They've all been jerks, or bullies, or too concerned with themselves to bother getting to know me before wanting a squeeze here, or a grope there." She sounded more annoyed than sad, definitely bitter.

A small sigh as she looked down, slowing her pace. "Even when I got here, on orientation... there was this really cute guy, really nice during the whole presentation... so... I sorta, kinda invited him to my apartment."

She gripped her bag tighter as they walked. "Turned out to be a major dirtbag. Brought a six pack and tried getting me to drink, even tho I told him many times I hate beer. When that failed, he tried getting touchy and that's when I pulled the tazer on him. Told him to g t f o before I used it on his jewels. That definitely got the message across when he left the apartment in a curse storm."

"I don't know... maybe I'm just not meant to love I guess."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
She'd invited some guy to her apartment...where she lived alone? Sigh. Ronnae...

It would be better if he didn't bother chastising her about it. Not just yet when she'd admitted to having such terrible luck with men.

"Maybe you should try women," he offered, more of a joke than anything. "I wouldn't say you're not meant to love, bon-bon. You're a smart girl and you know that. I think that most guys our age," more specifically her age as he already had almost a 5 year gap between them. "Are just getting into college and they let themselves get grabbed by the glamorous college life that's shown in entertainment media. Girls, drinks, partying."

He simply shrugged a shoulder and tossed his empty can into the wire trash bin. "Just don't think too hard about it, hm? Once a guy can get past his hormones then you'll be in a good place where you'll actually be able to learn something about each other beyond what's in your pants."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"G-girls?" The blush that crept on her face was evidence that she had at some point thought about it. "I don't know... we tend to be just as crazy...." She sighed and hugged her bag once more.

"Yeah... I guess you're right. There's bound to be someone eventually right?"

"And, b-besides... It's not like I'm not good lookin'... I jus' need to find someone who's not jus' in it to lay me down and take me s'all." Not that she had a single clue about what that meant aside from books and media...

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Pretty much," he said, laughing at the blush that rose to her cheeks. "It won't take forever, I think. Just time. You wouldn't believe how similar girls are in that way, too. Just as sex-crazed, it's just that guys don't see that as anything to complain about since most of them aren't looking for 'that' girl."

He fell silent. ears focusing on the sound of their footsteps pounding against the warm, spring pavement. His hands were firmly tucked inside his pockets as he walked, eyes darting around at the different number of people moving through the streets. This place was nice, as tied down as he was here.

"So you never answered. Want to go with me the next time I set out?"

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I... I don't know... It all depends I guess. You know... school, life, all that stuff yanno? Maybe, maybe not. Not makin' any promises since the future is always uncertain."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The future being uncertain was really the point. And that's why he just ran with what was brought...the future having your plans fitted in it or fitting your plans in the future? It was usually the latter for him.

He chuckled and shook his head slightly. "I was just kidding. It would upset your balance of things too much." After a beat he spoke up again. "And do you know how fast Auntie would beat me up for trying to drag you on some world-wide 'adventure'?"

Nokosi rose his head slightly and looked towards the rows of buildings on their right. He'd hardly been paying attention but now they seemed to be coming up on their destination fairly quickly.

With a small tug he opened the door to the pet shop, internally smiling at the rush of cold air that blew out to meet him.

"G'head."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Y-yeah... I guess you're right... Mama would throw such a big fit, and she'd definitely wouldn't allow it." She laughed a bit at the image... she did miss home, even if this small bout of freedom was refreshing.

Once they were at the store, she thanks Nokosi for opening the door and stepped in eagerly, there were so many things to look and so many cute animals it was almost overwhelming for the now very happy girl.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiled at her words, though the action was a bit strained. "Yours and mine, both."

Inside, the store was quite large. There were cages and pens lined against the walls, glass tanks and large domes filled with small birds. A cacophony of chitters, peeps, mewls and barks echoed in the large store.

A young man with dirty blond hair looked up from one of the dog pens and smiled. "Hey, Noks!" He called out, placing the animal back on the floor and heading over to the two who just entered the store.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ronnae looked in amazement, taking in the entirety of the store and almost skipping to each corner, wanting to see and hear every single animal in the store.

When the man spoke however, she did a small startled jump and almost ran towards her friend... But she was now partially hiding behind him.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Trenton!" Nokosi replied cheerily, walking towards the shorter man. They engaged in some pseudo-complicated handshake and hug combo.

"Long time no see, comrade."

"Right back at'cha, Noks. For a while I thought you ran off again, man."

"No, just school. This semester just started but it's been pretty busy. Not much time for me to lounge around, much to my eternal displeasure," Nokosi replied.

"Such a slacker," the shorter man joked. He moved closer and leaned to the side, trying to catch a good look at the girl hiding behind the man. "Who's this cute thing? That your girl?"

Nokosi laughed and shook his head. "Ha! If only she were. Nah, I've been friend-zoned since before a boy realizes he should be letting girls give him cooties."

"Harsh, man. Harsh. So...that means she's single, right?" The brown-haired teen winked at Ronnae.

He only rolled his eyes and put an arm around Ronnae's shoulder, pulling her to the side of him. "This is Trent, Ronnae. His grandparents own the store."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ronnae looked curiously over Nokosi's shoulder up until the part where the conversation involved her. At that point, the blush on her face was all that was completely apparent as she tried to stay hidden...

That was until her friend pulled her over, making her look downright embarrassed and timid and surprised,

"N-nice to meet you... " Was about all she could get out without going into her usual stutter storm.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice to meet you, too," he replied, reaching out a hand towards her. "So what brings you two to my grandpapi's store?"

"You know what it always is for me. Unfortunately just looking at the desperate faces in the store. The animals look pretty sad, too," he joked, patting the shorter man on the shoulder.

"That was bad and you should feel bad," Trent retorted. "Well you know the deal; go ahead and look around. Let me know if I can help you with anything. Especially you, miss," he finished with a wink.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
And there was Ronnae, half hiding behind Nokosi again as she nodded timidly at Trent, a slight blush on her face.

She'd follow Nokosi closely, wanting to see everything there was at the store... She did have some money saved up... Maybe... just maybe she'd be able to get something.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nokosi immediately went over to see the puppies; leaning over into the pen and tossing the ball to them. A few of them he lifted and cradled in his arms, nuzzling his cheek against the fluffy faces and scratching behind their floppy ears.

He talked to them as well; not the mewling, babbling baby talk that most people did. An honest to goodness conversation as if he were speaking to a small child.

Next, he made his way to the large fish tanks and peered at the turtle, eels and many fish that swam or hid inside. With a smile, he fed a few of the fish and rambled off some knowledge that most people didn't care want or care to know about the creatures on the other side of the glass.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ronnae followed, looking very happy amongst the animals. Petting and nuzzling them close to her, hugging them happily as they cheerfully licked her face.

Looking at all the colorful fish also brought a smile to her face. Fish was something she had considered, since they were most they were the most accepted pets in apartments. And they came in such pretty colors! Plus the accessories you could add to a tank could make it into an amazingly pretty decoration.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd already moved on to the gerbils and hamsters, watching them run through their little maze and roll around in the exercise wheel. He squatted down the look at the small balls of fur that were sleeping in one corner of the cage, a smile on his lips.

"I think the furry animals are the best, though I have a soft spot for aquatic creatures."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, they're so hugable! But the water ones are totally cute~! What's your favorite Nokosi?" she asked curiously as she tickled under a hamster's chin.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Sharks," he answered almost immediately. "My favorite are the sharks though very few pet stores carry those animals. They're large and graceful with a reputation that they don't deserve. Shame, too."

"But," he continued, peering over into one of the tanks with lizards. "I like the turtles, too. Reclusive creatures and they take a bit to coax them that out of their comfortable hiding spot. When you manage to get close to them, though. They'll be with you for life. Longer than one would live, usually."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"There's miniature sharks, like the dwarf, or pigmy shark. Lemon Nurse sharks don't grow past one foot long too. There's actually a big variety of sharks that you could keep as pets..." She paused, the heat rising on her cheeks at her little rant before she turned her attention to something else so she could hide her face.

"Y-yeah, I like sharks and turtles, they're pretty neat."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I've looked into those," he said, crouching down to look at the ferrets that ran around excitably in their cage. "But my apartment doesn't allow pets. A bowl full of fish, they might be okay with. A shark? Not so likely."

He sighed and rested his elbows against his thighs so he could cradle his head in his hands. "Oh well. It's not that bad I suppose, even if I do really like animals...." After a beat he spoke up again. "I did get to see some pretty huge sharks when I was in Thailand."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"If they allow fish, they'll allow sharks. It's not like the sharks will grow to go eat people... And it's not like they could fly..." She rolled her eyes at how dumb some people were at times. She wouldn't be surprised if they actually thought that.

"You were in Thailand?" She asked as she turned around curiously.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Hrm," he hummed, rubbing his lip with a finger. "You're pretty much right. Maybe I can renegotiate with them. See what they say."

He fell silent for a long moment as he watched the little creatures run, hop and play. This was the problem with him and pets; he never wanted to separate the siblings.

Finally he bobbed his head once. "I did, during that time I was away. I'm pretty glad I arrived long after that whole, messy coup d'etat deal was done with. Banning political activities and martial law. Would have been a bad place to be in."
