if you had wings...

Don't you wish you could fly?

Uh, well...about that. Now you can! See, for some reason, Stacy / GLaDOS / a wizard thought it would a real hoot to curse (bless?) you and now you've sprouted wings! It doesn't matter if your species would look silly with wings, you're a book, you can already fly without them, or whatever else. Too bad, you're stuck with them!

- Post the wing type you got saddled with---choose one on your own, use a RNG to choose, or leave it up to your partner! Your partner can feel free to have wings too.
- Characters who already have wings can have them modified in some way: if they can only glide, they're now capable of flight, or they can spout glitter and rainbows upon flapping. OR you can add an appendage of your choice---horn? Tail? Tentacle? Go wild.
- React, laugh, and have fun!

Wing Types:
01. Fluffy Angel Wings - The typical type you probably think of when 'wings' come to mind - you're all fluffy and downy like a Cherub - not to mention...these are very sensitive to touch...
02. Black Wings - they're beautiful, but seem a little off - and they stick out like a sore thumb!
03. Filligree Wings - very slight, very delicate and very beautiful - these are like filmy gauze attached to your skin and the most managable - if you like spider webs.
04. Fairy Wings - two sets, lucky you, you look just like a butterfly, and man are they strong - but it's hard to get them all folded up right, isn't it?
05. Devil Wings - you're like some overgrown bat - maybe you should be the one avoiding public the most for now, these might poke someone in the eye!
06. Your choice! You don't have to choose any of these, as far as your imagination goes is fine. And if there's a wing type in your canon that makes more sense, go for it!

"That's what I'm trying to figure out," Billy replied, turning the book to point it up at her. "The mechanics look simple enough. I just wonder if they're strong enough to support us long term. Not to mention the other problems it's brought up."

He looked over his notes one more time, just to make sure he had it all right. "I'd be wasting an opportunity if I didn't try this sometime," he noted, tentatively flexing the wings.

Kaya shrugged, floating over toward him. "It's like having another pair of arms somehow, but different. And I can actually FEEL the air currents, so depending on them, I exert more or less energy. It does make me a little more tired though, so I usually try not to fly too high, you know?"

She laughed. "I bet Ronnae would be amused!"

"That doesn't sound too terribly complicated. Maybe I could..."

Billy took one last look and set his things down, wrapping the wings around him once before stretching them out---then, bent into what he'd read was the starting position, pushing, a thrust---it managed to lift him off the ground. He still looked unsteady, wavering here and there, but at least he hadn't crashed yet.

"Are you sure? I know she wouldn't reject me over this, but it's bound to make things difficult. I can't sleep in as many positions as before, just to start," he mumbled, reaching around to rub the painful reminder on the small of his back. That hadn't been fun.

"See, you're getting it!" Kaya said, grinning. "I don't try to charge upward like that though: that looks more like what those superheroes do, and they don't have wings. You sort of want to go WITH the atmosphere, not charge against it. Think more like, say, a butterfly or a bird."

Oh, teasing time. "Well, you could always have her exhaust you enough so that by the time you sleep, it won't matter, right?"

Billy nodded wearily, letting the current tell him where to steer. This way, that way? Maybe? He seemed steadier now, at least.

Until she had to go and say that! His wings fluttered quickly, matching the flustered feelings of their owner. "I don't think I need to tell you that even that's going to be considerably more complicated now," he blushed.

Good. He was starting to get the hang of it, poor guy.

"What do you mean? Think about it: so long as you're carrying her, and you're flexible, it won't be complicated, just inventive. And from I remember, that's your specialty, right?"

"In mid-air?" If they could, Billy's eyes would've bulged cartoonishly. That was just unsafe in at least twenty ways. Unless...uh...did she mean...

"...oh, I'm supposed to give her a ride," he realized. "A flight. Carrying her, of course."

None of what he'd been thinking, or so he thought. Phew!

"Both, actually," Kaya said. "I mean think about it, its all about weight distribution and muscle, really. If you time it right, it'll actually be something you both might prefer. It;s all about possibilities!"

She flushed a little here. "Not that I know anything, I just read. I've never done that with anyone."

Darn it.

"Kaya!" Billy yelped, completely red-faced by now. There was no way...in the air? Where it was oh so easy to get caught?

"I...appreciate your creativity. It's valuable in the sciences, but I don't think we'll be trying that experiment. It'd be almost certain that we'll be caught," he moaned.

"What, get caught?" Kaya looked confused. "Well I'm not telling you to do something like that on the Obs deck or anything, just in your own home! The only way you'd get caught is if someone barged in uninvited, and Nokosi has been getting better about that!"

She shook her head. "Besides, the worse that can happen is someone pulling a muscle, or you and her falling down, and then you can laugh about it. That's the wonderful thing about having someone you love and care about all the time: sharing those crazy moments."

Billy knew that. He shuddered lightly. "There isn't really much room to fly in our room, but it would minimize the damage from falling." That was safe, at least.

He floated as if practicing the hovering motion, still shaking his head. "I won't do anything that will get her hurt," he sighed. "If she would, it's fine, but I have to know what she thinks of all this first."

That was enough talk about that. "How are you coping with this, Kaya? Are your friends okay?"

Considering she hadn't ever had sex, Kaya was more thinking of the mechanics involved anyway, Billy. She read a LOT, that didn't mean that she understood everything. She was at least glad that he would think of those things anyway.

Kaya gave him a look. "Billy, she's not made of glass, physically anyway: she'll be fine. With Ronnae, I know she;d try, because she'd want to try to please you. She loves you. That's what I think anyway."

She sighed. "Actually, I'm better. Negi and I are getting along, and the Outsider's are moving up slowly. Nokosi has been a big help, with everything."

"Since she'd be the one most at risk in that scenario, the key to the decision should be whether she enjoys it," Billy pointed out in a tone he thought was reasonable. "If you really think she would..."

Billy had to get away from that subject before his wings started to blush too. Not that it was possible, but...

"Oh, that's great! So you're the one teaching Nokosi to knock?"

"Like I said Billy, she's tough. Don't forget that she'd been on the battlefield, she's done a lot. Trust me, I think she could handle it."

She laughed. "Well I don't know about that, but he and I have been talking quite a lot. I've never held a conversation with someone so interesting. He's also been a real good comfort for me in the last few months, especially after Matt was gone."

Billy knew it was true, it would all be up to her. He just smiled, floating this way and that on the current.

As for the way Kaya spoke of Nokosi...did comfort mean just that, or was...nah. Couldn't be. "We're steadily becoming friends after a few awkward starts. So long as he eventually knocks, I won't have a problem with it at all," he smiled.

Kaya nodded. "I can only imagine. He's pretty comfortable with Ronnae, and I know that he took what happened on the marriage planet very seriously. The truth is, he's a very free spirited person, and sometimes forgets to protect people's privacy. But he's getting better. If Ronnae ever had a good friend looking out for her, its him. But you know that, don't you?"

"I do," Billy confirmed, smiling. "She's lucky to have him, and he was a great help and comfort to us when she was affected by the clock."

He'd just choose not to mention that Nokosi had been partially responsible for the mess he'd helped Billy clean up.

"I'd be all set to go if Fontaine would only stop growling at me. He really doesn't like me at all."

"I wouldn't be surprised if he helped Ronnae with some of those pranks," Kaya said dryly. "I wouldn't have thought so before, but when it comes to Nokosi, he has this tendency to play tricks on people just for fun."

She looked confused. "Really? Fontaine seems to really like me...but Nokosi DID say he had a tendency to like, um, pretty ladies or something."

"He did," Billy replied, just as dryly. Was she reading his mind again? "But he helped me clean up, and he made sure I had everything I needed to care for Ronnie. I'm so glad she's safe now---that was a rough time."

He fluttered his wings, drifting just a little higher with the current. "Well that would explain it. I'm definitely not a pretty girl," he made a face, "but there's more to it than that. I think Fontaine believes I'm a threat to his standing with Ronnae."

"I can imagine," Kaya said, who remembered all too well what a rough time it had been with Ronnae-less on the impact on Ronnae and more on the pains it caused trying to keep track of the rambunctious girl. Happily, it did not last too long, and Kaya talked to her afterward.

Kaya laughed, fluttering her wings a bit higher. "What? That's just silly: why would beig with you decrease his standing in Ronnae's eyes?"

Billy tapped his chin, wondering. He wasn't quite sure about that either. "I think it might be simple envy. Animals can sometimes hate it when a distraction appears, and my presence takes Ronnae's attention away from him somewhat. I can feel the disdain whenever he's nearby."

It was awfully irritating after a while.

Kaya looked a little bothered by this. She had actually come to love Fontaine, he seemed so sweet. She couldn't imagine why he'd have such an aversion to Billy. Fontaine was his own person though, so it was unlikely she could do much about it.

"Just give him time Billy, he'll come around. I guess it takes awhile for people to adjust to new things."

She was awfully glad, though, Billy was overlooking the slight glow she had when mentioning Nokosi.

Billy had thought the same thing, but he wasn't quite so sure. "Do you think so? I've been with her for a few months by now, and he still won't trust me. I'd spend more time with Nokosi if that wasn't an issue."

He was partially oblivious for now, Kaya, but not forever! Something about that idea had already appeared in his head.

""Maybe you need to have a nice heart to heart?" Kaya suggested. "Animals are sometimes funny that way: there are some things that just need to be approached face to face. I wonder why he would hold the grudge that long though."

She tried to keep him engaged on that.

Billy knew she was probably right, as always. "That could be it. I'll see what I can do, though I worry he might have more cause to attack me now. My scent's probably changed."

Wings had to smell different. He glanced out the side of his eye at them, feeling just a little awkward.
