feather fluff friday!

if you had wings...

Don't you wish you could fly?

Uh, well...about that. Now you can! See, for some reason, Stacy / GLaDOS / a wizard thought it would a real hoot to curse (bless?) you and now you've sprouted wings! It doesn't matter if your species would look silly with wings, you're a book, you can already fly without them, or whatever else. Too bad, you're stuck with them!

- Post the wing type you got saddled with---choose one on your own, use a RNG to choose, or leave it up to your partner! Your partner can feel free to have wings too.
- Characters who already have wings can have them modified in some way: if they can only glide, they're now capable of flight, or they can spout glitter and rainbows upon flapping. OR you can add an appendage of your choice---horn? Tail? Tentacle? Go wild.
- React, laugh, and have fun!

Wing Types:
01. Fluffy Angel Wings - The typical type you probably think of when 'wings' come to mind - you're all fluffy and downy like a Cherub - not to mention...these are very sensitive to touch...
02. Black Wings - they're beautiful, but seem a little off - and they stick out like a sore thumb!
03. Filligree Wings - very slight, very delicate and very beautiful - these are like filmy gauze attached to your skin and the most managable - if you like spider webs.
04. Fairy Wings - two sets, lucky you, you look just like a butterfly, and man are they strong - but it's hard to get them all folded up right, isn't it?
05. Devil Wings - you're like some overgrown bat - maybe you should be the one avoiding public the most for now, these might poke someone in the eye!
06. Your choice! You don't have to choose any of these, as far as your imagination goes is fine. And if there's a wing type in your canon that makes more sense, go for it!

Terror would be an understatement of what he felt then. There were no failsafes in place, and though her body and wings were both more durable than his, it still had the potential to get her hurt. His heart raced in fear as he watched, clinging to the edge of the building with his fists.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the magnificent red wings stopped her fall. He wouldn't entirely relax until she was back with him, but her voice sounded like pure joy. That was a wonder to him.

He slowly stood, reaching out to take her hands when the very happy girl returned. "I...yeah, you did it. That was incredible."

Billy just wasn't sure if he could duplicate the feat. His wings fluttered apprehensively as he looked down at the unwelcoming concrete, a cold feeling growing in his abdomen. The longer he allowed himself to consider the likely possibilities of limbs tearing from the strain, a failure of flight, or some other disaster, the more fearful he became.

"Right. Now. I...uh, I need to try." Not to die, he added under his breath.

She smiled, holding his hands and spinning a bit atop the rooftop. "It felt magnificent! The wind! The thrill! Everything about it~!" Leaning up on the tips of her toes, she kissed him. Excitedly and with passion behind it! The feat really got her in a good mood.

Stepping to the edge she winked at him. "Don' worry, I'll catch ya if the wings don't work~" It'd be easy for her, and soon she jumped off the side, practicing her hovering as she landed safely on the ground below, giving her lover a thumbs up and blowing an encouraging kiss his way.

Somehow, Ronnae's kiss made him believe that everything could be okay. And her protection helped him to take a risk...he'd have his strength with her, just in case. The calculations that suggested it should be impossible for him to fly with such lightweight wings still raced through his mind, but this wasn't quite a normal situation. He could take the risk of disregarding them this time.

He walked to the edge and nodded when she reached the ground, brushing a finger over one of his feathers. How was something so delicate and soft going to sustain him---magic, he guessed. If it didn't, he'd be rescued and healed. And there was always the backup plan as well. He plucked the power coin from his morpher, tucking it within his fist. In an emergency, a split-second morph would save him. What it would do to the wings was unknown, but at least he would live.

"I'm ready," he called over the edge, taking a step back. Then it was time to step forward. Once, twice, with a dive over the edge.

The air pounded his chest, his racing heart straining against it as well. Freefall like this was fascinating to study as the test subject, but the uncertainty bothered him. It bothered him very much, but the decision had already been made. He was going to land in excruciating pain or...

...fly. His wings spread at the same moment a crackle of blue light appeared in his hand, a spark of light activating what was almost an instinct. At the same moment he narrowly missed Ronnae, he disappeared in a white flash, reappearing considerably higher up in his Ranger uniform. The back of the costume had remodeled itself to include wing holes, allowing him to continue on with the glide. A flap or two brought him up---tilting this way was a turn---yes, maybe this was working!

He circled back, discarding the helmet and extending a gloved hand. "Phew, made it."

Ronnae waited eagerly as she looked up at where Billy was at, wondering if he would be okay. Not from the fall, she knew she could catch him if things went wrong she was more worried about his nerves.

But as soon as he jumped, her worry was replaced with excitement. She was sure he could feel it. The thrill and rush of the adrenaline pumping through him through the freefall. Soon enough he soared past her in a flash!

"Woohoooooo~! Go Billy!" she yelled after him, jumping happily as she cheered him on. Her focus entirely on him as he glided up and down, white, beautiful wings extended majestically.

Once he came close she could help but have the goofy excited little girl grin. "You looked great out there! That was so cool!"

Billy looked just as excited, with just a hint of being perplexed. That had felt so strange, and it should have been impossible.

"I don't know how it's possible, Ronnie," he said breathlessly, wings fluttering to keep him hovering, "but it is. And my morph even shifted for it," he realized, reaching around to his back to feel the new wing-holes.

"Thank you, love," he breathed, taking advantage of his position for a light kiss from above. "Now...let's go together?"

Ronnae nodded, a happy smile on her face as she began beating her wings until she hovered lightly nearby Billy. With a playful grin, she began flying backwards, keeping her gaze on his as she moved farther away.

"Now c'mon Mr. Cranston. You don' plan on keepin' a girl waitin' do you?" she giggled and started flying away, at a steady pace, she wanted to keep him in full view in case either him or her needed help.

"I wouldn't dream of it," Billy called back, starting to give chase. It was more awkward to start from a hover, and his direction wavered a few times, but his learning of the controls eventually progressed enough for him to follow in an entirely straight line.

"Ronnie?"

Ronnie paused, looking back as she wobbled a bit mid-air trying to adjust herself. She tilted her head curiously, trying to see if everything was alright before speaking.

"Yes love? What's wrong?"

"Nothing at all," he answered warmly, giving her hand a passing squeeze. "I just wanted to see that we were on the same page. How about...a glide above the river?"

It wouldn't do for their wings to get wet, but he did want to try skimming above at a safe distance. He dove with a laugh, arms outstretched toward the ground---yes, river. He positioned himself over it, tossing his gloves aside and dragging his fingers through.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ronnie giggled and followed suit, diving after him with a playful spin before skimming the surface of the river, running her hands through it with a cheery smile.

"This is so awesome, I'm so envious of winged creatures~!"

Billy grinned back at her, steadily rising up to the level of the treetops. "We're winged now, aren't we? Though the wingless have certain advantages---less area vulnerable to injury, ease in navigating hallways, and lack of a new sensitive region to name a few," Billy laughed.

He'd be okay if they went back to normal, he thought. This would be an enormous adjustment to his combat style and daily routine if it was permanent.

"But this such a unique experience, come bruises and hellfire, I wouldn't trade this moment for the safety of not having gained them!" She replied excitedly as she spun playfully mid-air, doing swift acrobatics and giggling at the same time.

"Experiencing this with you makes it all the much better love! You look amazing!"
