A Visit from the Magical Snow Fairy

This comm has been quiet for TOO LONG.

The ship is now full of snow. Seriously. It's in the hallways. It's in your bedroom. It's all over the mess hall, the sensoriums, and of course the city. How did it get here? WHO KNOWS! It's just everywhere snow should be and then a whole lot more.

NOW DEAL WITH IT!

(Meme is, as usual, open to literally anybody. Ever.)

Snow may be extremely inconvenient for most people on the ship, but Bella is not one of those people. She has four sturdy legs and a pelt that's been built to keep out snow since the dawn of her species.

She is bouncing along the street of the city, leaping in snowdrifts and flopping around on her back in the least dignified manner possible.

Clearly, she is having the time of her life.

A white wolf padded up toward Bella, but was interrupted as one of the trees dislodged its burden, dumping a drift of snow straight onto Ammy. After a moment, she broke free of the drift, shaking herself vigorously and sending snow flying in all directions.

Bella's head came up at the snap, and her eyes locked on the other wolf. WOLF! She scrambled to her feet and padded toward the stranger.

No, no ordinary wolf. What were those markings? The flame? Bella had originally walked with confidence but no threat, but as she realized this she broke stride and ducked her head somewhat, wary.

"Are you a spirit?"

[identity profile] victory-howl.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
What? Could this wolf see her markings?

Well, animals did tend to recognize her as different, more often then not -- so it wasn't that unusual. Still, Bella was the first who had remarked upon them here. Ammy pricked her ears forward, inclining her head slightly to the side.

Not a spirit. But close.

Bella was Garou. She was, though very poorly educated on such matters, a creature of flesh and spirit at the same time. She'd met few spirits before, but didn't know much about them and couldn't even understand their speech. Despite her bravado, she wouldn't have dared to traverse the spirit world alone. Being born a wolf and raised as such for most of her early life, it was easiest for her to wrap her head around anything strange and new by framing it in terms of spirits. And it was the closest thing she could think of to describe the subtle... offness to the strange wolf.

"No?" She tilted her head, ducking back a little. She communicated as much with the muffled whrrring noise as she did with the motion, like she would have with another of her kind. "You are strange to me. I am-" she hesitated. What name to use? She hadn't gone by her wolfname in seasons.

Wyrm take it.

"-Stands-With-Teeth-Bared."

Ammy barked.

...unfortunately, her bark did not seem to translate into any sort of easily understandable language. And without Issun here to act as an interpreter, well... looked like she was pretty much out of luck in the name department.

But at least she knew Bella's name! She bolted off across the snow, feeling the cold on her paws and in her lungs.

"Where are you going?!"

The abruptness of the stranger's departure startled Bella. She still didn't understand!

The wolf hesitated, her uncertainty giving her a second's caution, before she ripped through that and bounded after Amaterasu.

Ammy loped easily along through the streets, leaping high above fences and piles of rubble, and skirting startled shipmates with hardly a break in stride. As she ran, leaves and flower petals kicked up in her wake, though where they came from was anyone's guess.

She hit a makeshift ramp formed by the ruins of a partially-collapsed building, then used it as a jumping-off point to land on a nearby roof, where she skidded to a stop.

[identity profile] withteethbared.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Bella wasn't quite as fast as Ammy, but she had a good trail to follow. Whatever the white wolf was, she was not ordinary.

She couldn't make that jump. Not at this size, anyway.

Bella paused, reaching within her own mind for the appropriate burst of Rage. Channeling the primal fury, she shifted up to the larger hispo shape, a dire wolf the size of a very small car. It would give her the muscle to make the leap.

She lunged forward, claws digging into the icy building, then threw herself across the gap.

Bella looked at Amaterasu, still questioning. Who? What? Why are you here?

[identity profile] victory-howl.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ammy glanced over her shoulder at Bella's changed form, then turned back to the wide-open sky, letting out a long, echoing howl. What clouds still hung over the darkening sky of the City parted, allowing a bright yellow crescent moon (or the City equivalent, anyway) to shine through.

She sat back on her haunches, tail wagging, looking back to Bella as though awaiting her reaction.

[identity profile] withteethbared.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Bella too sat, looking up at the high crescent with her ears forward in rapt attention.

"This is a gift of Luna?" She was scrambling to try to fit this evidence into her cosmology. "You are not a spirit, but you are not Garou either. How can you do this?"

[identity profile] victory-howl.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ammy let out a questioning sort of wurf?; she didn't know what Luna or the Garou were.

She did, however, make a single flower sprout into being in the snow before Bella's front paws. Poing!

Rex also has sturdy legs, but three of those are mechanical, and what organic parts of him that remain aren't quite made for cold weather. This weird new place has gotten weirder with the freak snowstorm, and he's not enjoying it. It's making old joints ache, and his mechanical parts are moving a little slower than he's used to. He sits not far away, watching the other canine curiously.

Bella noticed the dog and regained her feet, shaking snow from her fur. She peered at it. What was wrong with that.

"Dog!" she barked, tail rising stiffly as she adopted a posture of canine authority. She would see how it responded.

Rex made a quizzical half-bark, half-whimper when Bella spoke, standing and backing up just a bit. What. Dogs don't talk. What is this. Damn it Courier, why did you replace his brain with the drug-soaked Fiends' dog brain, now he's hallucinating crap.
