"Close ain't good enough." He laughed, pushing his wet hair back. She'd put up a good fight though.

And she was pretty in general. But well, he didn't have the words to say so. "Man, the water feels good."

"See, I told you. This beats reading." Actually being with him beat reading but she didn't have to get that specific.

"Well, not by much. But it does have it's own...allure." Yeah, he just used a big-ish word. So what?

"You wanna get up on the thing?" And by thing, he meant the rock, of course.

Cassie just went bright red for a second. "The what?" Yes, her mind went there.

"Uh...the rock?" He hadn't meant anything by it, honest. The thought hadn't even entered his head until she went red, and then it hit him. And he went red too.

"O-oh! No! I didn't mean that!" Watch him flail, Cassie. Watch him flail. "The rock! I totally meant the rock!"

"OH! Oh the rock. Of course, the rock. Uhm." God, way to go, moron. "Yeah, yeah sure. Uhm. Yeah." Not waiting for any further awkwardness Cassie the boulder and climbed up because.

Yeah... so Nate'll be right up after you, Cassie. Once he's on the top, he lays back, shielding his eyes from the sun with an arm.

"Mmm...this is such a good spot. It's so warm out here."

Trying not to take that in any dirty way possible, thanks.

Cassie leaned back a little and watched the waves surge forward then recede. "Nice view too. I like looking at the waves. There's something peaceful about it."

Nate didn't move, just taking a deep breath and letting it out. "I like the sound of them. I used to listen to a recording of it to put me to sleep. But there's nothing like the real thing."

Cassie nodded. "My mom will play stuff like that sometimes but I've never used it. My dad would sing me to sleep if I had trouble." And that was... something she'd rather not think about right now, really. "But yeah, somehow anything artificial just doesn't add up the same way." For the moment she was oblivious to the fact that her broad statement could easily refer to her boyfriend.

"It was soothing. I used to have trouble sleeping. But the doctor said it was all in my head. So yeah, no meds." He nodded. He at least knew what had happened to Scott Lang.

"Yeah. Tell me about it." He held back a smirk at the comment, his mind drifting to a certain sentient suit of armor. But didn't say anything.

"Well you just get addicted to that medicine anyway, or at least you do in my time." Which was why she hadn't taken anything. "It's hard to get your mind still enough to fall asleep." Insomnia and super heroes kind of went hand in hand what with all the fights and supervillainy.

She didn't say anything more about artificial vs. the real deal. She'd probably realize the error in her logic later.

"It's actually worse in my time. Addiction to prescription drugs is a big issue. Specially since they made the drugs stronger." Can you tell that his time is really really messed up yet, Cassie? "It is. Which is also part of the reason why I took up the meditating." He wasn't technically a superhero anymore. But if the insomnia was any indicator, he was at least well on his way?

"Oh. Wow. Yeah, I can see why you'd want to meditate. Does it help?"

"Sometimes. Not always." He moved his arm a little to give her a lopsided smile. "I make it through though."

~~Why don't I help you sleep some time.~~

"Well, that's good, I guess..."

No hitting on him! You're a taken girl, Cassie!

~~Don't think your knight in...suit of shining armor would like that too much.~~

"S'what the doctors tell me. But I gues after this," he ran a hand along the scar at his throat, "I've gotten enough sleep for a lifetime."

Just keep repeating that!

Cassie's expression softened. "I know I said it before but I'm really sorry that happened to you. Did it... how bad did it hurt?"

He shrugged his shoulders a little, pasting a slight smile across his face again. "I didn't feel it at first. But just before I passed out, it was like...hnn. I dunno, touching a red hot poker across my throat."

Cassie looked away, back at the waves. "I'm sorry." She said softly. "I wish..."

He pushed himself up to sit next to her, bringing his knees up to his chest to rest his head on them, watching her for awhile before he spoke.

"I'd be lying if I said I never thought of blaming you and the others for sending me back to it. But...you know. It wasn't your fault. I don't even know what it must have been like. No one's to blame here." Except maybe me.

At her last words he nodded. "Yeah. But things aren't so bad now. I'm alive aren't I?"

"Yeah, you are." Cassie looked back at Nate and nearly reached out to lay her hand on his. "I'm really glad you're here."

"Yeah. Anyway I-" Whatever he was going to say is cut of as a huge wave crashes over the rock and ~~ruins the moment~~ knocks him off it. If Cassie is still up there when the water clears, he'll be nowhere in sight.

Cassie was still up on the rock, but only thanks to her quick hands, which now had some decent sized cuts on them.

"Damn! That was- Nate? Nate!" Don't freak out. He's fine. He knows how to swim he'll be fine... unless he hit his head or- "NATE!" She looked over in the water, trying to spot him.

There's a long silence before he comes up out of the water, coughing a little before letting out a short laugh. "Oh man, what a trip." A pause when he sees her worried expression. And his own face becomes a little o_o, the effect of which is made more comical by the seaweed dripping from the top of his head.

Ahem. "Uhh.. looks like the tide's coming in?" He gives her a lopsided grin.
