Ickle Meatships!

Hopefully no one sues me for semi-stealing the SLEEP meme format but!

ICKLE!

Think about or think back on the childhood days/younger days of your character (or your character now if they already are kids). There's a huge playroom with a mountain of toys....

Have fun, Kids! And no fightings!

"Observational research is just as valid, especially with this particular type of project," Brainy argues back. "Not to mention trial and error isn't practical when dealing with something already widely known about."

He spares a glace for Tal, but obviously finds Wyn the more interesting person to talk to. "Well if I were to adopt the view point of the rest of my species..."

It has been a pleasurable experience to meet you, Renne.

[And tiny!snuggles are go. Billy's never had a friend before.]

Do you have friends here?

He may be eight years old, but Luis knows a kid trying to one-up him when he hears it and he just rolls his eyes at the comment.

"Do they not have books or birthdays where you come from?"

Oooh, the nervous system. Hunter's not quite sure of all the technical names for things, but he can pretty much tell anyone who'll listen how it works and how to fix it.

"Eth-pawn-yah..." Hunter says, cheerfully mangling the Spanish pronunciation. "Sorry, what'd you ask?"

Dean beamed at that idea, "Hey yeah, I could do that! My dad's showed me stuff about cars. So has Uncle Bobby."

"No no. Es-pahn-ya," Luis corrects. "And I asked where you are from. Americano? Texas, right?"

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"You can't, he's away on a trip right now," Dean said. Dad's always away on a hunt. Just how it is. Though Sammy should be around here somewhere. He knows he's gotta keep an eye on his little brother.

"Naw, I've used real guns. Like a shotgun."

Results: inconclusive, Brainy decides. Further research is needed.

He sits down on the floor close to the creature and after a brief review of what he knows of animals (mostly lab animals), extends a hand carefully. He's not worried about the possibility of being bitten, since he's made of metal, but he doesn't want to startle the... whatever it is.

< I know about evolution! > Ax said hotly. < But I don't see why the number of two-legged species would be different just because it's a different reality. >

Ax followed Brainy's path with his stalk eyes, his tail twitching a little. But he wasn't intimidated at all. Not even a little. Elfangor would be proud. < I guess so. > It was still weird, though.

< You're lucky. They're evil and they crawl into people's heads and take over their bodies and enslave them. > Ax shuddered. < Everyone hates them. >

[Billy sits carefully, with Renne in his lap, still ear-scratching and smiling.] Then I'll extend my friendship to you. You have already proven your loyalty, and I've never met anyone as fascinating as you before!

"Yeah, but this research is all... squishy." Wyn says after a minute of flailing to find the right word. Her English skills aren't quite up to par yet, so bear with her. "You don't have a big enough group to know if the behavior you're observing is a characteristic of the species or just the individual, and if whatever you're researching is so widely known, why are you even bothering to do it? You could be doing something original and more fun instead."

Could it mean anything but?

Brainy hasn't had enough experience to pick up on what's probably either a rhetorical question or sarcasm, so he answers in all honesty. "No. Neither is really familiar to me. Books became outdated centuries ago and I'm not really familiar with the term 'birthday'. I can imagine the context, but I don't see why it's relevant."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Paco grinned back. "My friend Jaime's dad owns a garage. He fixes lots and lots of cars, but he won't let me and Jaime help. He said we were too little and we'd get in the way. I think he wouldn't let us in because Brenda was with us. She's a girl, so she doesn't get cars."

He flipped the toy car over on to its hood. "So, where do we start?"

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Spirits," Brainy says flatly. "You're talking about ghosts? And what's a grindwump?"

[identity profile] justabarkeep.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"You wouldn't have far to go." Tal points out, already resigning himself to simply making smartass comments from the edge of the conversation. His sister is having fun, for whatever reason, and so obviously he can't leave her alone with the creepy green boy.

"Nah, I'm from Georgia. Texas is a ways away from Sparks, anyhow." Hunter says, shaking his head as he sneaks a look at the next page in the textbook.

Oh. Well. Clearly this kid was underprivileged or something. Luis remembered this conversation with Abuelo-- they lived in a very small town, while some children lived in big cities and some children lived in even smaller towns, and he must always think of where people come from while he talked to them.

He took a deep breath and turned up from his book, explaining very patiently. "You get presents on your birthday," he said. "Abuelo always gets me books, and he goes all the way to the city to get them."

Short Steve, meet ickle, short Sofia Mantega. Who can magically speak English.

"Can I join?"

Sofia bounced over to Luis. "What are you reading?"

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Brainy's expression says he really, really doubts you know anything about evolution right now, Ax. "As I said different paths of evolution. It's not a difficult concept. In one reality creatures with four legs and a tail came to be prominent, in another it was two legs and no tail. This is pretty basic knowledge."

He straightens up slightly, all smug roboty-ness, and says; "They wouldn't be able to do anything like that with me then. I'm not organic, so unless they have an extremely versatile system, it simply won't work."

[identity profile] ayasofia.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey that looks like fun! Can I join?" Sofia grinned. Who cared about the splatter of paint on her dress? That was what bleach was for!

Oh, well he sounded like he was from Texas anyway. Luis had been to the cinema enough to count on one hand but he could hear an American accent easily.

"Have you read this book before?"
