Nicked from DDD

THE
SICK MEME

Post your character, one-ish per comment
They are now, for some odd reason, sick (headache, fever, runny nose, cough, whatever you want)
Another character replies and is struck with the sudden urge to take care of them (bringing them soup, extra blankets, Sudafed, sexual healing, what have you)
???
Profit!

Katara

Well, it finally happened. Ms. "I need to take care of people as much as I can" is now sick, and she's doing her best not to show it. You can hear her coughing, and every now and again she's starting to shiver.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
There's a thermometer coming at her face. Kaylee will not take no for an answer. "Open up, let's check 'n see where it's at."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"What the-!" Katara is totally taken by surprise here, and while she was going to insist she was fine, she remembered how she'd been with Billy earlier, and what she'd made Jamie do too. She sighed, opening her mouth.

"Ahang."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
The thermometer goes in, and Kaylee reaches over for a box of tissues as well.

"Just gotta nod or shake your head, but how's your stomach?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Katara waited until the thermometer was out of her mouth before she made her reply.

"Kind of fluttery, like I'm going to be sick, but not," she admitted, "I've been feeling off the last hour, to be honest. How's my temperature?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee frowns at the thermometer. "It's up a bit. We'll check it again in a little while, see if it changes at all. For now, might not hurt to head for bed."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Katara fumed a little. "But there are other people who are already sick! I can't just leave them, I have to..."

And she was cut off by her own fit of coughing, then made a face. "Kharma is a jerk!"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
"And you ain't gonna be able to help anybody if you don't help yourself first, yeah?"

Kaylee rubs Katara's shoulder, and gives her an encouraging push toward her bunk. "C'mon, just 'til we know for sure if it's gonna get worse."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Katara moped, shuffling her feet toward the bunk. Really, she knew how to heal, she even had that healing artifact from Negi to help magical people, but she couldn't even take care of herself? That was just sad.

"All right," she said, and when she lay down, the world started to spin. "Uh oh. Um, could you please get me a basin?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Basin, basin--aha!

Kaylee's quick to move the basin to Katara, and is ready to hold her hair back if necessary.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good, on both counts.

Katara grabs the sides of the basin and heaves in, unaware of how this even came to be and keeps her head bowed low after she's done. Being sick was one thing, but this was pretty mortifying.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee has had plenty of practice in holding back hair with River's little episodes. She rubs Katara's back, as comfortingly as she can with her free hand, and takes the basin after she's finished.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," Katara groaned. "I guess...I should take it easy from now. I'm going to be good to anyone like this. Now where's the bed again?"

Her head's getti8ng all dizzy again.

There's no fooling a Bonded on this matter, and it's totally payback time.

Billy is rushing to her side, his accumulated sick-kit sanitized and safe in his hands. "Katara..."

There's his hand at her forehead. "It looks like we finally wore you out."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara looked over and smiled despite her irritation at the growing discomfort she felt. Of course Billy would know that she was starting to feel under the weather.

"I was hoping I could last a little longer," she said, groaning. She wiped her brow, teeth chattering. "But maybe I can make a few more soups so.."

She shook her head . "How am I?'

Billy slipped a thermometer in her mouth, checking the reading after a minute. "Feverish," he reported. "But don't worry about the soup, Katara, I'm not incompetent enough to mismanage that. It's just heating water, a few ingredients, and stirring it all together."

He placed a hand on her arm. "Let's get you to bed."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh great," Katara groaned. "I didn't need to get sick! There are still people who need to get some assistance! I'm sorry to put you out like this Billy."

And that's enough talking, because she's taking his hand and walking over to the bed. She's actually starting to feel less and less ok, the longer she stands, and now she starting to feel the color drain from her face.

Billy noticed all of this too. Ill Katara, this didn't bode well.

"You've done more than your fair share of help," Billy assured her, pulling down the covers and helping her into bed. "I'm not an expert healer like you, but I should be able to do something. Soup first?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Katara wrapped herself in the blanket, sneezing a few times before resigning herself to the bed. She sighed, laying down and sniffling.

"That's fine, and thank you Billy. Yes, whatever you can manage will be OK. I'm in no position to be demanding anything more than that."

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-02-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll be right back."

Billy secured the blanket more tightly around her before he left, starting in on the soup. Just boil water, add some broth, a few vegetables, a spice, stir...

He can't promise it's great soup, but he's followed some scraps of a recipe. It should at least be passable. Soon enough, he comes back to Katara and sits on the bed beside her, passing the soup.

"Here, take your time."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
She waited. To be honest, she was actually really happy to be cared for by Billy right now: it reminded her how Renne used to be toward the two of them, and she knew there was some of that in Billy as well as some of it that was all his own.

"I will, thanks," she said, and started to taste the soup. It was tasty for a first try, and she started to eat with slow gusto. "It's good," she told him. "Is this your first time cooking for someone?"
morphitudinous: (Serious)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-02-06 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"My first time that didn't end in disaster," Billy admitted, carefully rubbing her back while she ate. Not for a medicinal reason, but he hoped it helped her body calm.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
It did actually: that physical reassurance made her relax, and she sighed, eating more of the soup.

"It's delicious, thank you," she said, and despite the sickness, reached over and gave him a hug. She couldn't help it: he'd been a rock for her more than he knew.
morphitudinous: (Display of affection)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-02-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Billy hugged her close. He didn't fear getting sick again.

"You don't have to thank me," was his answer. When she drew back, he rearranged the pillows behind her and reached for the medicine. "Here, I have a pill that's been effective for the others."

It's presented with a glass of water.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I'm doing it!" she said weakly, sticking her tongue out at him. She shook her head. "What am I supposed to do with that piece of chalk though?"

The glass of water at least looked inviting.
