Mirror of Erised Meme (because we missed last friday!)

The Mirror of Erised Meme

The Mirror of Erised, of Harry Potter fame, doesn't show the reflection of whoever looks into it. It shows them as they would be achieving their heart's deepest, most desperate desire whether or not it is possible. For instance: an orphaned boy who never knew his parents sees himself surrounded by the biological family he could never know, the oft-overlooked youngest son of a large family sees himself having his day in the sun outdoing his brothers, and the happiest man alive would look into the mirror and see only himself.

What would your character see in the mirror? Feel free to post reactions ICly or oocly, whatever is fun for you.

Mine are easy. AND SAD. Except Punchy's his is stupid.

Eva stares into the mirror and sees, in painstaking detail, a world where she walks into a supermarket as just another person, with no scars on her body or mind. She sees a husband she never made a widower of, her and Peter still together in their imperfect but loving marriage, still fighting over whether he stands up for himself enough at work or whether she makes enough effort to be nice to his sister. Her haggling her teenage son over grades and haircuts and speeding tickets, over stupid teenager things instead of the end of the world and the future of humanity.

Howard stares into the mirror and sees himself distorted. Not fearless, per se, but more open. The casual swagger isn't underlined with his usual light-footed preparation to bolt. His eyes aren't constantly checking for a door, his mouth not constantly seeking some tactile reminder of how remote a fear hunger is. It isn't confidence, not total resilience, but some better version of himself that doesn't weigh the damage so heavily against the things that have gone right.

Punchy sees exactly what he knew he'd see - himself, half-naked in bed with a superheroine who's cooing to him how he saved the world and would he like to jump her bones again. Paparazzi waiting outside to clamor for a statement on yet another heroic act, happy children living in a town he helped save, fame, fortune, shaking hands wit the president, shaking hands with Tupac (who is totally alive), respect, pride in himself, and the unshakeable belief that he is not only special, but important, making a difference.

Alex will totally show Punchy how to do the 'smoke me a kipper' pose. "You've got brill hair for it!"
