A Visit from the Magical Snow Fairy
This comm has been quiet for TOO LONG.
The ship is now full of snow. Seriously. It's in the hallways. It's in your bedroom. It's all over the mess hall, the sensoriums, and of course the city. How did it get here? WHO KNOWS! It's just everywhere snow should be and then a whole lot more.
NOW DEAL WITH IT!
(Meme is, as usual, open to literally anybody. Ever.)

He strode to the middle of the clearing, raising his wand high. "Accio Coat!"
He concentrated hard on the image of a coat, pulling any and all in the area. It took a minute for three to appear, flying from different directions: one blue, one grey, one red. Hopefully one of them would fit!
They crashed on top of Cedric, leaving him to swat them down. "How's the fire coming along?"

"I can start it now with what I have, but we need something better to maintain it," she mused with a frown as she stared at the area where she'd piled the paper for the fire. "I wonder if we can find wood. It would be best for our purposes, but anything that will take the flames at least a little extra time to burn through would do." Finally she looked over at Cedric, surprise covering her face as she noticed the three coats in Cedric's possession. "Where did you find those?"

Cedric nodded sharply, looking out through the clearing. "The problem's that the snow's soaked any wood lying around. I'll try to dig some up, and I might be able to dry them with magic."
He set out to do just that, hunched over the snow as he set out. Six minutes later, there was a bundle in his arms and he returned. "Is this enough?"
no subject
"Plenty. Thank you," she said with a wide grin, taking the logs from him and laying them on the ground. Taking only a few to start off with, she laid them out and intertwined the paper with the wood. Focusing her mind on the pile, she willed it to burn. It started with a few sparks, but ended with a roaring fire. Settling back with a relief, she motioned to Cedric, inviting him to come sit beside her.

He was grateful for the invitation, of course. Sitting beside her, he wondered about the magic he'd just seen. "Your magic's different. No wands, no incantations."

She smiled at him, sitting close enough to the fire to get the most warmth from it without being in any danger. "Sometimes spells are used, especially if the magic that you're trying to do is complex or precise enough to need that much structure, but the Gift doesn't necessarily require it. Controlling and manipulating it comes down mostly to the user's will. For example, with fire you need to really want the thing you're focusing on to burn, to see it happening in your mind, and it'll burn." Curiously, she glanced at him, "I take it your magic relies heavily on those things. What's a wand anyway? I think that I've heard you mention it before, but I really don't know anything about the instrument."
no subject
"Will's involved with us, but we do need spells. They can be cast with incantations or nonverbally, but they're stronger with the incantations."
He withdrew his wand, twirling it in his hand. The stick had lost some of its shine, but the power was still thrumming through it. "This is a wand. It's made from special wood and contains a magical core---unicorn hair in my case. That channels our magic."
To demonstrate, he flicks it at the fire and creates a simple flat roof without words, shielding the fire from further snowfall.

She listened carefully as Cedric explained the way his magic worked and the demonstration was interesting on top of actually being useful (Always a bonus in Alanna's eyes.). In some ways, his magic wasn't that different from hers. The reliance on will still appeared to play a role to varying degrees and spells played an important role in both forms a magic. On top of that, even though she'd never used a wand as Cedric did, she'd used her sword to channel her magic when casting. "That makes sense. I don't use a wand and I don't know any mages who do, but using items to channel magic is common enough. I typically use my sword for that purpose."

Given recent events, he definitely needed more training in weapons. "Were you fighting often?"
no subject
The Lioness nodded a bit more gravely. "Often enough. Bandits are not uncommon and my kingdom went through a very rough period..." How could she explain what had happened? She decided against trying for now. It was complicated and she didn't want to disrupt this pleasant moment with her own more dire thoughts. "I serve my king and kingdom's interests, which can often mean fighting although not always fortunately.
