Ickle Meatships!

Hopefully no one sues me for semi-stealing the SLEEP meme format but!

ICKLE!

Think about or think back on the childhood days/younger days of your character (or your character now if they already are kids). There's a huge playroom with a mountain of toys....

Have fun, Kids! And no fightings!

Brainy is, at roughly age twelve, as close as he's ever been to being a child. Having left Colu not that long ago, there are a lot of things he just doesn't grasp the concept of, and one of them is apparently the play the other children are engaging in.

For the moment he's just standing off to the sidelines, watching what's going on with a thoughtful look on his face.

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ax's legs looked far too long and skinny for his body, and also like they were entirely made out of knees. His tail didn't look much more like it fit.

He was in the process of inspecting Brainy closely.

< Where is your tail? >

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ax gets a curious head-tilt as Brainy looks him over. "I don't have a tail," he says matter-of-factly. "I'm Coluan."

After a moment he adds; "I don't know what species you are, though. You're not in my datafiles."

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
< But you only have two legs. > Ax pointed. See, look, two legs! < How do you not fall over if you only have two legs and no tail? >

He tilted his head to the other side. His stalk-eyes stayed in the same place in the air, though. < I've never heard of a Coluan either. I am an Andalite. I'm going to be a warrior like my big brother when I grow up. >

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"A lot of species only have two legs," he answers, raising one arm while the other folds behind his back. Something that will be eventually known as 'Brainy's Lecture Mode'. "At least where I'm from. I theorise you must be from an alternate dimension or another galaxy if this fact is unusual to you.

"As for how I move around without falling over, I personally have many highly advanced programs that assist in replicating natural behaviours of organic species. Something that maintains a sense of balance is not only extremely simplistic, but also inherent in my original design specs."

Lecture-mode off, and now he's back to being interested in Ax. "Why do you want to be a warrior?"

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
< We haven't learned about dimensional travel in school yet, > Ax said slowly. < Why would there be more species with two legs in an alternate dimension? >

He listened to Brainy's lecture with interest. < It still looks like you might fall over. Wouldn't a tail make more sense if you were going to design yourself with two legs? >

Ax stood up taller. < I'm going to be a warrior because it's the duty of every Andalite to fight the Yeerk threat before they take over the universe. Haven't you heard about the Yeerks? >

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Different evolutionary paths, obviously," he says. "I thought you'd know that already."

Almost like he's trying to weird Ax out, Brainy walks around the Andalite, taking note of various details as he does so. "A tail would likely make sense from your perspective, having little experience with bipedal species, but from mine not having one makes perfect sense."

He pauses for a moment, thinking. "No, Yeerks sound to be exclusive to your reality or galaxy."

"Hi there, Brainy," little Nura of age seven is giggling into her hand off to the side. She had been moving towards the drawing table where she would start to draw a night sky, but then she spotted Brainy and her interest was piqued.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Nura gets blinked at. "I'm Brainiac 5." Nicknames apparently haven't happened to him yet either.

"I don't know you. How do you know who I am?"

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 12:54 am (UTC)(link)

Brainy's question earns a giggle. Nura looks up at him, with a bright smile of one who knows more than the one who questions. "Because I know something that you do not..." she then adds with a quick smile, "Brainy."

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"That's not likely. I know a lot about many different topics." At least in theory. Practical experience is something else. "And I can always find more information as I need it."

expect more smart-mouth out kiddle!Nura.

"No you don't. You think you do...but you don't!" she laughs. "I'm the most brilliant precog on Naltor of my generation!" She puts her hands on her hips, smug.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, a precog," he says dismissively. "You do realise that your power doesn't make you omniscient, don't you?"

"Whatcha doing?"

Have a bouncy ten-year-old, B5. One who is really, really interested in knowing why you're green. She's not alone, though...

[identity profile] justabarkeep.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
... her twelve-year-old brother is also here, looking considerably less interested in whatever's going on in this corner.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Studying the behaviour of younger members of several species in order to learn more about them." Well she did ask.

[identity profile] madeofwyn.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:19 am (UTC)(link)

"... why?" Wyn asks, sounding completely baffled. "You could just ask."

[identity profile] justabarkeep.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"'Cause he's boring. Let's go, Wyn." Tal is way too cool to be over here with the budding sociologist and his crazy sister. He'd much rather be punching someone.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I can't ask about some topics," Brainy answers in a tone that comes out as 'how can you not know this already?' "And I can't build a comprehensive database on what behaviour is acceptable and what isn't without constant observation of those around me. While this group is of a younger mean age than I would normally consider worthwhile for study, the data could be useful."

Tal just gets a look like Brainy has seen more intelligent lifeforms at the bottom of a petri dish. "Science isn't boring."

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's... unusual. Brainy bends down to get a better look at the odd little creature. "What are you?" he asks, uncertain if it's even sapient.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Results: inconclusive, Brainy decides. Further research is needed.

He sits down on the floor close to the creature and after a brief review of what he knows of animals (mostly lab animals), extends a hand carefully. He's not worried about the possibility of being bitten, since he's made of metal, but he doesn't want to startle the... whatever it is.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
It occurs to Brainy that one, the creature clearly can't see him, and two, it actually is trying to speak. Unfortunately he doesn't recognise it or anything it might be related to at all, so the chances of him knowing a language that might be more familiar are extremely low.

He takes a risk in gently patting its head, hoping that isn't going to offend it.

"Can you understand me even if you can't speak very well?"
