Oh the weather outside is frightful...

☀THE WARM AND TOASTY MEME☀

The situation: It is dreadfully cold. Think 'ice cave where all those slash fics are set'.
The goal: Keep each other warm tonight!

☀ STEP ONE: Comment with your characters. One comment for each character.
☀ STEP TWO: Other people reply to your characters.
☀ STEP THREE: Both participants are aware that they should/must keep nice and warm. To do that, you need to bundle up nice and closely, however grudgingly. No, killing your threadmate and cuddling the body doesn't count.
☀ STEP FOUR: Keep 'em warm! Hot cocoa, hot coffee, hot tea, hot mustard, or other suitably warming beverages will be provided if you cooperate.
☀ STEP FIVE: Lulz ensue!

((Basically just a winter-themed cuddle meme, with evil ideas from Shae and Col. Add some cuddle urges in the air if your characters won't otherwise cooperate but you want them to.))

[As long as they can keep the blanket tucked in tightly, the shared body warmth will help some with that. It's not perfect, but it's better than freezing.]

Ye know we'll look after ye however we can, Katara. Hey...do ye think we should try and get out of here now that we're a wee bit warmer?

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded. "As long as you keep that blanket wrapped around us, I'm ok with that idea. I'm pretty good with this type of weather, but even I'm not invincible."

If only she were a firebender. They would have been out of here awhile ago.
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-14 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Aye. I'd not leave it behind, trust me.

[It'll be a bit of a slow go, but hopefully they can find a way out. He takes one more drink from the cocoa, and offers the last bit to Katara.]

Here, ye finish it. It'll help. And with luck we'll be out soon. Or at least find some firewood so we can make a fire.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
She took the cocoa graciously, and walked with him, trying to spot some firewood herself.

"You've lived off the land with the doctor, or do you just have experience with this kind of thing?"

She brushed a bit of snow away with a wave of her hands.

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-16 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
With the Doctor? No, not really. He'd always come up with some clever way to find us a place to stay indoors. [Jamie smiles fondly as he remembers some of the tricks the Doctor would use to use to do just that. He shakes his head, dismissing the thought, and turns back to Katara.]

But I've had to do so back home in Scotland. When we were going to war, sometimes ye would wind up sleeping under the stars, and hunting your dinner. It was never as cold as all this, though.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-16 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh. I guess that works too. I sort of wish I could meet this doctor: I've seen one, I'm pretty sure, but he never seemed to stay around for very long. Is he always like that?"

She nodded here. "That sounds familiar, actually. We were on the run from the fire nation all the time, so it was sort of important we all helped each other out, with setting camp and finding a place to sleep and food to eat. The only time it was this cold, though, was when we went to the Northern water Tribe, and even then we had warm coats and were welcomed there."

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-17 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Katara's pretty much hit the nail on the head there, and Jamie gives her a very wry look.] Aye. He doesn't like staying around one place very long. Says it's because of the explanations making things a wee bit difficult.

[Jamie rather suspects it's more to do with the Time Lords and the Doctor not wanting them to know where he is, but it could very well be either.]

Aye, well, unless the cave wants to give us warm coats, too, I think we're stuck with the blanket. Hey, let's try this corridor.

[He steers them down a promising looking passage.]

So why did ye wind up going so far North, then?

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think I know a few people like that," Katara said, thinking specifically of the Avatar and the duties he had to his people.

She nodded and followed him down. The question he asked was easily answerable though.

"It was before I became a master. I told you that I was the last waterbender in the Southern Pole, so it made sense to find one in the North. That was when I went to see Master Pakku. He didn't want to teach me at first: it wasn't tradition for a woman to use waterbending as fighting, just healing. I wanted to fight, he was stubborn, so we had a fight of our own. I lost of course, but i was able to show him I was serious, and after realizing I was the grandaughter of the love of his life, he conceded. As it turned out, I became one of the quickest to advance in his class."

She looked rather proud of that, too. Who wouldn't?
bonnypiperlad: (grin)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-19 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's certainly understandable and Jamie nods, pulling the blanket closer as it begins to slip. Still, he can't resist the urge to tease a little. "Well, I'd not say that he was wrong about wanting to stay with tradition. There's just some things men are better at."

He waits a few seconds, then gives her a crooked grin, and says more seriously, "Although I can picture ye insisting on getting that training. How'd he find out that your grandmother was the love of his life, though?"

No she isn't sad,the icon just has that pendant in it.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she knew h was joking by now, but that doesn't stop her from punching him on the arm, giving him a smile. "Oh, thanks a lot for that, you jerk!"

But to answer his question, Katara went straight to her neck and showed him the choker she always wore. "See this? It was something I always wore to remember my mom. Gran gran gave it to her. It was actually the betrothal necklace Master Pakku made for her. She may have been able to leave him then, but she couldn't part with this."
bonnypiperlad: (peering)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-20 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, that's right. Ye mentioned it was important to ye before. [And now Jamie knows why.] So it's more to ye than just a reminder of your home. It's a reminder of your history as well.

[Neither of which seems to include an ice cave with no exit. They've been wandering for awhile, haven't they? And, now that Jamie looks around, he realizes he's not entirely sure where they are - or even how they can get back to where they were.]

Er, Katara? I think we're lost.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded. There were a lot of reasons for the necklace, but that was one that was high on the list.

"I've worn it ever since she left us. It was the last things if hers that I had. I just didn't know it had been gran gran's first, or that it was a necklace of betrothal in the first place. But after that, Master Pakku agreed to teach me. I could see in his eyes that she'd meant a lot to him."

She paused, and blinked. "Um...I think you're right. Maybe we should double back from where we started?"
bonnypiperlad: (Riiight.)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-21 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not so sure that will work.

[He points to what appears to be an smooth, unbroken ice wall.] There was a passage there a moment ago, aye? I think the cave doesn't like our moving around like this.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Katara looked at it, growing a little perturbed herself. She walking to the ice wall and touched it, and trickled down to water. She looked at Jamie, giving him a nod.

"Let's keep going, and I'll melt the walls and lead a path with the water, so we don't lose our way."
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-21 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Aye. [He's not entirely sure the cave won't come up with some other plan to keep them there, but it's worth a try.]

After ye, then.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara nodded, taking his hand, making sure the other was lifted ahead of them in case they needed to melt anymore water. She could hardly take her eyes off the beauty of the cave though, and all of the beautiful ice stalactites that were forming on the ceiling.

"Wow," she mused. "This place reminds me a little of the North Pole."
bonnypiperlad: (sideprofile)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-24 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Jamie reaches over and adjusts the blanket so he can grasp both sides with one hand to help keep the heat in. That frees up his other hand for Katara.]

Why would ye say that? Because of all the ice and the cold?

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-24 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Katara took his hand and made sure to walk with him, though she could go a little faster. That, and she's a little better at keeping heat in, considering she's done it before.

"Well, no. I mean yes, its cold and ice and what not, but6 it also had a beauty all its own. The Northern water tribe had actually been able to handle attacks by the fire nation due to its location and their resourcefulness, while the Southern Water tribe was weathered down pretty badly by fire nation attacks. So looking at all of this natural beauty, it reminds me of the North pole all over again."
bonnypiperlad: (seriously?)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-25 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, I see. [He can understand why she thinks of it that way, but he doesn't quite share the same feeling. To Jamie it's just a lot of ice, and he's not very fond of the stuff. He would prefer to simply get out of here - if they can.]

If it's all the same to ye, though, I'd rather not stick around to take in the view. How much further do ye think it is?

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-25 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She understood enough that Jamie wanted to get out: only a few people were really going to enjoy all of this, especially when they were all here in the cold. So she trudged on.

"Honestly, I don't know. Let's keep going though: its starting to get cold again."

bonnypiperlad: (Heeeey...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-27 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Aye. [He follows Katara for a bit, privately thinking the cave is never going to let them out. Then, just after they've passed through yet another ice cave, he feels a bit of air on his face. It takes a few seconds to register the sensation, then his eyes widen, and he goes to tug on Katara's arm urgently.]

Katara! Katara! Do ye feel that? There's air coming from somewhere!

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara, who was starting to move around a bit to see if there was any way out, definitely DID feel that. If only she had Aang's ability to airbend, they would get out of here much more easily!

"Yeah, I feel it too!"

She closed her eyes, getting the mental picture of the ice around her and brought her hands towards her chest. It would take chi for this, but Katara WAS getting better. The ice started to shudder, and then fell to water at their feet. Katara exhaled sharply, opening her eyes.

"That way!"
bonnypiperlad: (kilt)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-28 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
[It's Jamie's turn to grab Katara's hand and hurry in the direction she indicated - although he's careful to keep the blanket wrapped tight around them both, just so the cave doesn't get any ideas. Soon enough, there's a lighter area where the air seems stronger.]

Daylight! That must be the way out. Come on!!

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She was definitely going to increase her speed: this place had been nice enough, but staying stranded with only a blanket between them wasn't going to help them any. With a burst of speed, the two finally made their way out of the cave labyrinth.

Where they were now, at least, was a bit brighter an quite a sight (http://www.dylancolestudio.com/Matte/Superman/images/LF_047_033_MPsketch_v02.jpg) to see. Katara was sure she had never seen a place like this before although, comically, there was also a sign right outside the lair: The Way Out.

Katara looked at Jamie. "Um, have you ever seen anything like this before?"
bonnypiperlad: (hrmph3 (in color!))

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-12-29 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, would ye look at the size of that! [Which, for those of you keeping track at home would be a 'no'. It takes him a minute to notice the sign, and when he does, he promptly pulls a face.]

Oh, aye. Very funny.

[It's unclear who he's addressing it to, but he seems to be looking up at the sky at the moment for whatever reason.]

Well, we won't be able to stay out here for long. I wonder if there's anyone living nearby?
