Oh the weather outside is frightful...

The situation: It is dreadfully cold. Think 'ice cave where all those slash fics are set'.
The goal: Keep each other warm tonight!

☀ STEP ONE: Comment with your characters. One comment for each character.

☀ STEP THREE: Both participants are aware that they should/must keep nice and warm. To do that, you need to bundle up nice and closely, however grudgingly. No, killing your threadmate and cuddling the body doesn't count.
☀ STEP FOUR: Keep 'em warm! Hot cocoa, hot coffee, hot tea, hot mustard, or other suitably warming beverages will be provided if you cooperate.

((Basically just a winter-themed cuddle meme, with evil ideas from Shae and Col. Add some cuddle urges in the air if your characters won't otherwise cooperate but you want them to.))

[Jamie's currently searching through the cave trying to find something - anything - that will work to keep him warm. He's also trying not to let his teeth chatter that much. He's a Highlander. He can deal with a wee bit of cold, right?]

Katara glided onto the scene, noting that Jamie seemed to be getting pretty cold himself. She followed him silently, watching as he tried to find something to keep himself warm. Finally, she spoke up.

"Any luck?"

No. [He's rather vexed by that, as a matter of fact. He plops down rather heavily onto a rock, blowing into his hands in an effort to try and warm them up.]

I don't suppose that ye found anything, did ye?

"Well, I found this." She brought out a hot mug of cocoa, which she'd previous never had before, but knew enough of the logistics to heat it up and mix the contents before serving. She passed it over to Jamie as well as a long, woolly blanket.

"Let's share that," she said of the blanket. "It'll keep us warm."

Thank ye very much. [Jamie takes the mug gratefully, wrapping his hands around it.] Oh, that's better.

[And, oh, there's a blanket too! Jamie flicks a glance between Katara and the blanket, then nods. Using body heat is a good idea. He tucks one end of the blanket around himself and holds the other end open so Katara can come in.]

Aye, that's a thought. Hey...don't ye have anything warm to drink?

"You're welcome!" She said, and ducked into the blanket. She wasn't completely cold yet, but there was definitely enough of a chill in the air that she'd want to get warmed up very soon. She snuggled in next to Jamie, exhaling sharply with a "wooo" and making sure the blanket was wrapped enough around them to not let in cold air.

"Huh?" She was startled by the question. "Oh no, there was just one. How's it taste?"

It tastes like... [He blows across the top of the mug to cool it enough so he doesn't scorch his tongue, then takes a cautious sip. A pleased smile breaks out across his face.] Hey, chocolate! Like with those s'more-things, just in a form ye can drink.

[Less graham crackers, though. Jamie doesn't particularly care - he thinks this is just fine.]

Do ye want to try some?

"Sure!" Katara said, siding up enough to Jamie so their body heat made them warm still, and blew on it as he had. She was usually not one to indulge in sweets too often (you didn't really get them in the water tribe) but when they were in the right circumstance she found them quite pleasant. She took a long sip, then grinned.

"This tastes great! Hope you don't mind I'm sort of in such a closed space with you, but it will keep us warm."

[Jamie gives Katara a funny look. Why on earth would she ask that?] Mind? Why do ye think I would mind?

"Well I dunno. It was really awkward for Billy, so I didn't know if it would bother you. Honestly, its kinda like snuggling with a brother."

Now THAT she hoped didn't bother him, but she didn't think it would. Billy was the only other person she thought of as a brother.

[This is Jamie the human cling wrap that we are talking about here. It's not like they had to kiss or anything, so he's perfectly fine with it.] Och, don't be ridiculous, Katara. There's been times when I've had to do this before, ye know.

[curiously] Do ye think of me like a brother, then?

"I didn't know," Katara said. "Well in that case, I'm totally glad it isn't awkward. They say that a boy and a girl can't do a thing like this without their hormones getting in the way or something. Glad to prove them wrong!"

She didn't even have to think about this. "Well yes, a very close friend like a brother, only a little more tolerable. Does that bother you?"

Aye, well, they'd be wrong. [Jamie takes another sip of the cocoa, then offers the cup to Katara again before shaking his head.]

No, I'm not bothered by it. I suppose...ah, it's silly.

"Well, good," she said, and took a sip with Jamie, regarding him kindly.

"Hmm? What's silly?"

[Jamie adjusts his edge of the blanket to cover where a wee bit of a draft has snuck in.]

Well, if I had a sister, I'd like her to be a wee bit like ye are, that's all.

That made her very happy to hear: she only wished there was a way to keep the cold out. That would have required the help of a firebender or even an airbender though, so she just curled up with Jamie instead.

"Thanks. I miss my brother, honestly, but with you and Billy and Renne, I can at least deal with him being gone.I know he'd want someone to look after me if he couldn't."

[As long as they can keep the blanket tucked in tightly, the shared body warmth will help some with that. It's not perfect, but it's better than freezing.]

Ye know we'll look after ye however we can, Katara. Hey...do ye think we should try and get out of here now that we're a wee bit warmer?

She nodded. "As long as you keep that blanket wrapped around us, I'm ok with that idea. I'm pretty good with this type of weather, but even I'm not invincible."

If only she were a firebender. They would have been out of here awhile ago.

Aye. I'd not leave it behind, trust me.

[It'll be a bit of a slow go, but hopefully they can find a way out. He takes one more drink from the cocoa, and offers the last bit to Katara.]

Here, ye finish it. It'll help. And with luck we'll be out soon. Or at least find some firewood so we can make a fire.

She took the cocoa graciously, and walked with him, trying to spot some firewood herself.

"You've lived off the land with the doctor, or do you just have experience with this kind of thing?"

She brushed a bit of snow away with a wave of her hands.

With the Doctor? No, not really. He'd always come up with some clever way to find us a place to stay indoors. [Jamie smiles fondly as he remembers some of the tricks the Doctor would use to use to do just that. He shakes his head, dismissing the thought, and turns back to Katara.]

But I've had to do so back home in Scotland. When we were going to war, sometimes ye would wind up sleeping under the stars, and hunting your dinner. It was never as cold as all this, though.

"Oh. I guess that works too. I sort of wish I could meet this doctor: I've seen one, I'm pretty sure, but he never seemed to stay around for very long. Is he always like that?"

She nodded here. "That sounds familiar, actually. We were on the run from the fire nation all the time, so it was sort of important we all helped each other out, with setting camp and finding a place to sleep and food to eat. The only time it was this cold, though, was when we went to the Northern water Tribe, and even then we had warm coats and were welcomed there."

[Katara's pretty much hit the nail on the head there, and Jamie gives her a very wry look.] Aye. He doesn't like staying around one place very long. Says it's because of the explanations making things a wee bit difficult.

[Jamie rather suspects it's more to do with the Time Lords and the Doctor not wanting them to know where he is, but it could very well be either.]

Aye, well, unless the cave wants to give us warm coats, too, I think we're stuck with the blanket. Hey, let's try this corridor.

[He steers them down a promising looking passage.]

So why did ye wind up going so far North, then?

"I think I know a few people like that," Katara said, thinking specifically of the Avatar and the duties he had to his people.

She nodded and followed him down. The question he asked was easily answerable though.

"It was before I became a master. I told you that I was the last waterbender in the Southern Pole, so it made sense to find one in the North. That was when I went to see Master Pakku. He didn't want to teach me at first: it wasn't tradition for a woman to use waterbending as fighting, just healing. I wanted to fight, he was stubborn, so we had a fight of our own. I lost of course, but i was able to show him I was serious, and after realizing I was the grandaughter of the love of his life, he conceded. As it turned out, I became one of the quickest to advance in his class."

She looked rather proud of that, too. Who wouldn't?

It's certainly understandable and Jamie nods, pulling the blanket closer as it begins to slip. Still, he can't resist the urge to tease a little. "Well, I'd not say that he was wrong about wanting to stay with tradition. There's just some things men are better at."

He waits a few seconds, then gives her a crooked grin, and says more seriously, "Although I can picture ye insisting on getting that training. How'd he find out that your grandmother was the love of his life, though?"
