~~I feel vaguely bad posting this since we've had a few other memes over the last few days but. I wanna spam the hell out of everyone. .___.~~

In honour of the fact that it's Valentine's tomorrow in my corner of the world, I bring you the Blind Date Meme!

Somehow, someway, your character has agreed to a blind date (or several). Maybe they were coerced into it, maybe they don't actually mind the idea, maybe it's just Stacy messing with everyone's heads again, but they're here now. And at the very least, it shouldn't be boring for them.

...Hmm. That's not a very good move to make at this point in the game.

He could be feinting. We'll know in three moves. But even if he is, I don't think she'll fall for it.

Either way, it won't be very effective, so therefore isn't a good move to make.

Hmm. Attempting to win a more powerful position by sacrificing a pawn could work, but she's a gifted opponent, she may not fall for it. It would probably be most effective to make her believe that was your intention, but then launch an attack with the king's rook on the unprotected side of the field.

I don't think she'd fall for that either. Personally, I'd use that knight he has on top. Even gifted players tend to lose track of them because of how they move. A sudden return to play, then the real attack.

I'm not sure I agree with that plan. Moving the knight back into play places it at risk of an attack by the queen, possibly losing the piece with no gain whatsoever.

Drawing the queen is actually a possible strategy, especially since he's been so defensive so far. It'd be unexpected.

He has to do something soon, in any case.

He's not doing bad, but she's got a clear advantage over him. He's just prolonging it with that move.

[Lyle shakes his head a little before focusing on Brainy.] You play a lot of chess?

Sometimes. The hard part is finding a good opponent. You?

Hmm. It's not really my kind of game. I like games where I can hide the pieces and my opponent doesn't know we're playing.

So, you'd want to play something like that old Earth game Battleship, but with someone not knowing what they were playing? That doesn't seem very effective.

I'm not familiar with that one. Maybe something like Cry Wolf.

I don't think I know that one. How does it work?

People are randomly assigned as either sheep or wolves. The sheep try to vote out a wolf every day, but the wolves eat a sheep every night. So if you're a sheep, you try to uncover the wolves and safe sheep without getting yourself eaten. And if you're a wolf, you try not to get caught, and try not to eat your own if you don't know who they are.

Usually there are more sheep than wolves and the sheep get clues to narrow down the wolves. But there are a lot of variations.

That... actually sounds like fun. And I'm beginning to see why you like the game as well.

But if a large group of people are all in the one area playing, wouldn't the wolves get caught during the 'eating' phase?

No, they send in their votes by text. There's a lot of secret messages handed around in this game.

It's fun when you play it with a lot of people you know. Sometimes it's really easy to tell they're lying because you know them, but some people automatically assume their friends are too guileless to pull off being wolves when they're not.

I also had a friend who would run around telling people he was a wolf just to see how they'd react.

...unfortunately I can think of a few people in the Legion who'd fit that descriptor. Was it anyone I know?

No. He only did it because I dared him, anyway. Still got himself voted out first round. People figured that even if he was a sheep, he wasn't taking the game seriously enough to be any help.

It's a pity we can't play something like that here though. It might be something to do.
